Hello, I'm new to this malarkey. Off on our maiden voyage in our Adria (Fiat Ducato van conversion) this week. The manuals say to 'clean out the hoses and water tanks' but what with?

Just flush them through fresh water before first use, then drain down after each use, never found that tanks need cleaning under normal use.

You shouldn't need to clean it out but you could partially fill the tank then just pump it out through the taps. If you think the water smells a bit then buy some water purifying tablets from somewhere like Go Outdoors, add them to the tank in the recommended dose, run the taps for a bit to ensure all the pipes are full, let it stand overnight and flush out again or just live with the slightly smelly water - it will be fine for washing in etc but you may prefer tap water in a bottle for drinking.

Would not worry to much unless you intend to DRINK It .. We use 5lt bottles of water for drinking. You can then fill the tanks with water without worrying about how clean it is especially if you are heading over the channel. Some of the taps are in strange places and not always labelled so get used for everything.

VWP is chlorine based same as bleach. It must be washed out well as it could damage the stainless steel parts of your boiler.
There is enough chlorine in tap water to give a flush through of a new system.
