Hi all, as I am crossing over from caravanning I put my awning up for sale on a caravanning forum and got an email response form an alleged buyer. To say the least the language they use is unusual as the refer to me as Mr Harry as against my surname plus, and most obvious issue, they are sending a courier to collect the awning and say a bank cheque is in the post. As these cheques can often be part of scamming I have told them that I will not release the awning until my bank has cleared said cheque and awaiting their reply. Anyone else had similar issues on internet selling?

When looking for my van, I saw a great add for a lovely MH being sold by a lady who had caught her husband cheating so was hitting him where it hurt,
The van was in the Bristol, area and she was a very busy surgeon at the hospital so unfortunately her time was limited, If I could send the cash she would then have it delivered. The same van appeared many times on Gumtree or similar ads. I reported every one of them during my search for the van. I eventfully bought from ebay after meeting the sellers and seeing the van at their property where it was registered to.
Do not part with your goods until you have the money in your hands

You get all sorts of scammers on the net, never part with anything until it's paid for.

Any offer of sending courier to collect is 100% a scam, a common tactic to defraud sellers.

Even a bank transfer can be clawed back in some circumstances

I think they changed when you can do that.

I believe it has to be exceptional circumstances as there was a lot of clawing back as a scam.

I maybe wrong though, it has been known on occasions ?

Be careful. A cleared cheque, the money can be grabbed back by the bank. Especially if the cheque was stolen and the owner notices money gone from his account a month later and informs the bank.

I have told them that I will not release the awning until my bank has cleared said cheque and awaiting their reply.

Do you have a bank account in the name of Mr Harry in which to deposit said imaginary cheque?
You were far too polite
Your response should only have consisted of two words......one of Four letters and one of three.

Cheers all, it was actually a cashiers cheque (?) and have emailed him to say no I am not selling to him, thank you all.

If collecting in person or via a courier cash is the only currency acceptable!
