Parked there 4 weeks ago to Cherbourg.

We arrived about 10.30pm, security guys direct you to park alongside a fence in front of the departure kiosks.

You get a knock about 6am (for the first sailing to Cherbourg anyway)

Very convenient & free but a little noisy though not an issue for me.

We stayed there last year but had to go into the Terminal office to ask the guys if it was ok as they are the authority for the port and security is key these days .

Usually you can park after 10pm depending on morning sailings ie if a portsmouth to caan sails at 0815, then you won't be able as too many vehicles . Otherwise I think you can . Either way check wiv BF prior.

Parked up in March, arrived 20:30 for 10:00 sailing to spain following morning. No problem at all, attendants parked us in queue for boarding. Following morning around 8 am traffic manuovered round us till we were ready to move, no one knocked or bothered us or van parked behind. Very quiet once last ferry departed at 23;30

Taken in June, no problems. Vans parked the other side and a few parked at the back of the lanes. A couple started moving when the booths opened and everyone sort of followed. It was very quiet until cars started to arrive around 6am.

I have just checked on their website on the section that says guide to portsmouth ferry port and it clearly states that fir early morning crossings you can park in the check in lanes after midnight.
If you arrive earlier you might be allowed in but that is what it now says. I know it used to be after the last ferry had sailed.

We stayed at Port Solent car park last year prior to catching the midday Bilbao Ferry and it was fine - quiet, places to walk the dog, level parking. Half a mile from the ferry?

Yes its a bit like Benedorm I would think although I have never had the pleasure of going or intending to go there, Benedorm I mean, have spent loads of times in that spoons :D, but I do like the spoons, great value and like minded not up their own arse people :) Then become one as I crawl back to my boat
