When you click on Inbox it opens up "Conversations" I suppose if nothing there you dont have a PM

If you know who is supposed to have sent it, try sending one back. Click on inbox, then click on start a new conversation.
When you have an unread pm, a number will appear top right of the word INBOX just like for ALERTS.

Same as alerts a red box above the "inbox" with a numer (number of unread messages).
