Piece of string how long. ::bigsmile:

How long since you bought it ?

How long before you sell it ?

How long before you realise it's the wrong string ?

How long to unwind it then iron it to prepare to measure it's length ?

How long before your ego takes over and you replace it with a piece of rope ?

How long before you ask "why did I buy this piece of string ?".

How long before you realise that the length does not matter but what you use it for is all important ?

How long before you waken up and think "today I will measure that piece of string" only to find you can't find and so you go out and buy another piece of string clearly labelled 10m of String.

How long before you get to thinking, "well is it really 10m ?"

753 miles, 430 yards 1' 7"
But.. it may have shrunk a bit

About 6". Any longer and you'd coil or roll it up and so it becomes a skein, ball or coil of string, rather than a piece. Any shorter and you'd have chucked it out as it it's too short to use as shoe lace or to tie around something and knot.

Piece of string walks into a bar and orders a pint.
Barman says, sod off we dont serve pieces of string in here!
Piece of string then walks out the bar to tell the disappointing story to his other piece of string mates.
He comes up with a great idea, he gets his mates help to ruffle up the one of cut ends of himself and walks back into the bar.
He demands another pint from same barman, got the same answer, I told you before didnt I, we dont serve pieces of string in ere!!
String replies......

Thank you TheBig for that

I found that video very interesting for many reasons

The subject itself

His succinct explanation and fluid presentation

I understood his American accent because his diction was clear

His whole presentation reminded me of two of my lecturers without whom I might not have got through my Law Degree and Bar Exams. One, who was only a junior Academic in Philosophy at Cambridge, lecturing on Jurisprudence, lead me to understand why mankind wants a system of Law and from that I started to take an interest in philosophical theories of Kant, Whitgenstein, Hume et al. That has informed and enriched my life for 50 years.

People like that are exceptional in that they lead many others to areas they have not explored before.

For the readers of this thread that I may have bored with this post, I challenge you to go back and play the video clip, if you have not done already.

I would be interested in any comments.

Geoff

It doesn’t matter as long as it’s enough to tie your shoes up with.

Splice it into a ring and it becomes a
