Hi, put our Oyster V dish up yesterday when not on hook up and although it went up ok it wouldn't come down. When I replaced the 10 amp fuse the dish retracted. This happened to us on our other van a couple of years ago with the adish when on hook up. On that occasion the fuse was only a 5 amp. I was advised to change it to a 10amp which I did and had no further problems. The system has now been fitted on the new van by the dealer with a 10amp fuse. Any thoughts on why it may have blown and if a 15amp fuse would resolve it? Thanks

Obviously a fault, either electrical or mechanical.
DON'T increase the fuse size.... Worst case scenario, the wiring will overheat and either melt or burn.

The motor will take more current if the drive is stiff (and maybe getting stiffer). Might need some grease, but I know absolutely nothing about them ?

If you increase the fuse size the motor can take more current. This could lead to the motor breaking something like a gearbox in the dish or burning out the electronics. They put a 5 amp fuse in for a reason when it was designed.

don't Increase the fuse, it’s there to protect the “brains unit” if you fry that it will cost around £500 to replace as I recently found out when mine wouldn’t retract.

Thanks all - 10amp it is! It’s been fine when in mains power so will keep it to that for now.

If it is OK on mains but not on 12v it would suggest either your battery is low or on its last legs or the wiring to the dish/controller is undersized.

I would suggest you add a 17mm spanner to your toolkit, if you can’t get it to retract by replacing the fuse then you will have to retract in manually by loosing the 2 bolts either side of the dish, lower it and retighten, speaking from experience.
