We brought a Burstner in Sept 2017 a the NEC, Collected it in Sept. 2018 after much trouble, In Feb.2019
we received a letter from Burstner reading quote '' Dear Sir You are the owner of a Burstner, ,Due to severe damage reports concerning this product, We have discovered that the connection between sidewall and chassis presents a weakness in material, It is possible that the Dashboard will come loose, and flap up and block your view, Further more the inner cases can tear, and fall off. In your own interest we ask you to stand back from further Journeys, '' unquote, I rang Timberland The same Day, ''They said they know nothing about the recall and would check it out,'' I Emailed Burstner, "they called the day after and said contact Tmberland or Camper Uk, It is Now May, and after 6 Ignored Emails I sent to Burstner, Timberland are saying they have never come across this problem, and will need Burstner to send someone to show them what to do, Camper UK say they cannot look at it for 12 Months or more, We Are now stuck with Motorhome, we look at ! and dare not use. We have Lost and cancelled all our days out, we both have had many sleepless nights, We do not know what to do, We have not got loads of money to spend on Solicitors IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP US PLEASE,

Assuming the letter is genuine then clearly this van is unfit for purpose. A solicitor will assist you recovering your costs from the supplying retailer (including their costs) when you return the van for a full refund.

Dear Sir You are the owner of a Burstner, ,Due to severe damage reports concerning this product, We have discovered that the connection between sidewall and chassis presents a weakness in material, It is possible that the Dashboard will come loose, and flap up and block your view,

That sounds total nonsense. The wording, the facts. All wrong.

Someone is having a sick joke, surely.

Do as my son in law did with Swift, find out what shows are coming up and the dates ,threaten them with the fact that he and the family would stand near their stand on these dates, each of displaying a 'potted' history of the problems and advise visitors to think carefully before purchasing. After, he had his 2017 caravan replaced because a detached body similar to your problem

What about rejecting it as not fit for purpose. Even if you don't go that far a letter to your dealer threatening to reject may be enough to make them get their finger out.
You have been driving it up until now so the chances of it happening I would think are quite small. So what about a trip to Germany to Burstner, that is what I would do.

I really don't get British dealers attitude, you don't get these problems with foreign dealers they are always happy to do warranty work. They see it as additional income.

Total nonsense, how is it no one else has had this problem.
You can gaurantee someone would have been on here before now.

The letter sounds nonsense to me. For a start it says 'a Burstner' without specifying a model - surely the fault would not affect all models in their range.

Further, I can see no connection between the alleged weakness and the 'dashboard' flying up.

The 'inner cases can tear' - what does that mean, if anything?

No recall number quoted. There is a website where one can trace any recall, but I do not have reference.

If that’s the exact wording then it doesn’t look right.

If that’s a translation then it could be genuine.

I'm another who thinks the letter doesn't ring true. Your dealer and Burstner themselves know nothing about any fault or recall which confirms that it is fake.

Just get on and enjoy your vehicle.
I'm not sure why anyone woukd be sending out fake letters though what have they to gain?

I think it's lost in translation

We had a problem with our Dometic Fridge Freezer not getting cold on gas or electric,a few months after we brought it home, Dealer suggested contacting Dometic directly to save us the 124 mile journey back to the dealers, as they would send an engineer out to our home., great idea I thought(y)
We contacted Dometic, they gave a list of all their approved mobile service engineers,in the south east of England which we contacted, all of which were booked up months in advance. Getting nowhere and the sun was shining, we had trips & Rallies booked but could not use the van as no way of keeping food fresh.
The dealers Dometic engineer was on holiday for 2 weeks and booked solid on his return also.
After much frustration & head scratching, I drove the van all the way to the dealers, and told them it was better sitting taking up space on their premises rather than us having to look at a useless unusable van every day on our drive.
I got a phone call 2 weeks later, saying the Van was fixed, please come down and collect, I wont bother telling you what the Dometic problem was, as thats not the point. I got a full demo of the Fridge Freezer working on Gas, Hook up, & 12 volt before I accepted the van back.

I would drive the van to your dealers, take a copy of the Burstner letter for verification, hand over the keys and tell them they have 10/30 days to sort out this problem as the vehicle is not safe to use or you want to reject it under consumer laws of being not fit for purpose or safe to drive.
Meanwhile ask them for a loan van so you can enjoy your annual leave in the meantime, as the depreciation clock on your Burstner will be ticking away while its unusable.
Good Luck, you should not have to tolerate this problem, it should be sorted between Burstner & your dealer as its a safety warranty issue.

Have you not got "legal protection " attached to your insurance.? If so use that.

Is it parked in someone's view?

How can a dash flap (flip) up and block your view ?

The letter makes no sense

I'd drive it up to the dealer and camp there until I got answers............

Hope you keep us updated on this, very interesting.

I would RING the makers and askabout it as there must be a reference and name on the letter. Dashboards cannot flip up and block you view, seems to me to be a hoax. GET A KNOWLEGEABLE FRIEND OR OTHER to look at it and the letter. before getting all wound up.
It seems a bit airy fairy especially as there seem NOT to be any other IRATE owners on here blurting out expletives, which I can guarantee would have happened very quickly. You are not alone with one in the country and recalls are listed with the VOSA and will be on their site as are ALL recalls , look on there for confirmation of anything. It seems bullshite to me.

Have you contacted Burstner and asked them? According to the DVSA recall database from 2016 to date there are no safety recalls for any Burstner models listed. In fact the last recall specific to Burstner was in 2008 and related to a possibility that a window might detach from the vehicle.

Edit: In fact if you go here you can contact Burstner directly, include the VIN of your vehicle, attach a scanned copy of the letter and ask them to confirm its validity or otherwise.

The letter would make more sense if it had arrived on April 1st

I'd email a pic of the letter to Burstner's head office to find out if it was genuine

I'd be very worried.

This is what can happen if the dashboard flips up and causes an accident - allegedly
