Seems this damn infection is messing up a lot of meets - rally`s - shows for a lot of people..

The organisers, the visitors the rallyer`s etc...

I know an awful lot want to get away to meet up with friends and try and get back to some sort of normality ... but..

Would it not be best to knock them all on the head and forget about them till Covid19 has all but passed....

I think it would get me down had I of booked to go to one or two of these meets etc, only to find out it/they had been cancelled yet again...

I will be quiet happy just to get away for an occasional few days knowing I should be pretty safe... If allowed...

What say you..????

I think and it is dangerous when I am thinking. Plan for the best and if you can't go to a particular meet either go somewhere else or take it on the chin. As long as the organisers (commercial) handle it well there should not be a problem. Be kind to the funsters who are willing to try to organise the meets as it is not their fault. Local authorities lock downs are going to complicate things further.
Maybe we were getting a little complacent thinking every is back to normal.

I should have been running my first craft fayre in our village this summer, but that could not happen, then there was hope that it could happen before Christmas.

I have since decided that it will just have to wait for as long as it takes, but it will happen one day.
I am lucky that all the people who have paid deposits or in full for their tables are happy to wait, none of them have asked for their money back.

As the date approached and then passed I suggested that when we know it is safe to go ahead again I would offer 3 dates, take a vote and pick the one the majority could do, those who couldn't could then either have their money back or defer to a future fayre.
I am so pleased that they are all happy with that idea, I suppose it's something to cling to for the future.

On a much larger scale, the plug was pulled on the Southampton boat show the day before it was due to open. Tough times to be in business.

I just feel sorry for all the organisers of these meets rally`s and show`s... :frowny:

It must cost them a lot of time and a fare bit of ££££`s to set up... and organise only to have it pulled from under them for no fault of their own..

What chance the Lincoln or Three Counties shows?

The problem is that this virus will not pass. It's not just going to disappear any more than the flu or the common cold.

We have to learn to live with it.

I agree, the infection and death rates have dropped because we're hiding from the thing, not because it's gone away. Until we get a vaccine (a proper one not a Trump election-related one) we'll either have to keep hiding or venture out with due care...and accept the likelihood of catching it.
It's a very sad fact that a lot of people (not all) who have passed on due to the virus were going to pass relatively soon anyway.

One good thing might occur, the general public might purchase goods to last, and be repairable. Not buy to throw away and then preach about sustainability. Or re cycling, businesses should learnt a lesson from the 1970s three day week, I learnt to adapt, prosper and survive.
Memories are short and if anyone thinks this is the last fiscal challenge they live in a different univers. Pension funds in deficit, including University funds, printing money with no foundation. Do not mention sustainable building in rural locations with no employment, with a need to travel/commute etc.
Business models are not what they seem, ask yourself what is in societies best interest. In the name of progress we sit by whilst a mining company destroys Aboriginal caves thought to be continuously lived in for 46000 years. In the name of business.
A need to change is overdue let's grasp the opportunity, not worry about short term gain and individual want and consumption.

I know what you mean Janine ... :hugs:

We were trying to meet up with another couple of Funsters in the next week or so... but because both family`s are on the "At risk"... list we have cancelled and will look forwards to meeting when things get back to normal`ish..

So I have got Judy doing a bit of hedge trimming, then she will have a go at crucifying the grass and we will be back up North to our cottage where at least I can go for a walk and not meet anybody..

Yes it was all set up , but in a much smaller scale than usual , but a big lost to the city

I think all the cancelled events show the new measures will have some effect on the spread of the virus. I'm with old mo basically for the punters who were going to attend all they're missing out on is a jolly. I do have more sympathy with the traders.

Or we could just go ahead with everything ?

That's what we are doing, you could spend the rest of your life waiting for normality to resume, we just carry on being careful, had our daily swim, ground the coffee relax a little then out for lunch with friends and back to theirs for drinks. 😁
Off to Portugal on Monday for a few weeks, and making the most of it, my advice is.....................

👍🙂 Bob.

Or we could just go ahead with everything ?

And all that will do is make the "Funeral" businesses get richer...

And they will never live to spend it all...

We have put our plans on hold for 2020, my 70th, daughters 40th, Euro travel, rally’s take care of themselves, mostly cancelled. Not what we want but hey, we’ve had it so good for so long now, just hop on a plane, jump in the van go anywhere you want. Just have to rein it in for a while.
At the moment, having a nice time in the U.K. Whats not to like.

A Doctor friend told me some years ago...... "Remember, life is a sexually transmitted disease, with 100% mortality". Of course, he is correct. We are all going to die of something. I just do not want Covid to move me closer to the front of the queue!

I suspect no one knows the true figure, but from data available it may be reasonable to assume that in the UK just now around 1 in 1,000 folk are actively shedding virus. If we take sensible precautions, the chances of coming into direct contact with someone shedding virus is small but, especially for those of us who are older/vulnerable, the consequential risks may be very serious.

Suppose we are lucky to have the choice...... Carpe Diem...... or Stay Safe. I know what my choice is. facemask.jpg

That's nearly over ?
4 months to go, then we’ll see what happens. We would normally be in Spain and Portugal right now but who knows what 2021 will bring what with Brexit and Covid ? Should be in Mexico and California early next year but can’t see that happening. Can’t wait to get going again.

I don’t think so the way some of the public are acting

Just looking at the figures here, Spain and France, schools back plus the added complication of the winter I not sure anybody should be too surprised at things not back to normal any time soon. Disappointing yes but not catastrophic. Very sympathetic to those that loosing out financially of course.
