auto sleeper
My oil service light keeps flashing due to the motorhome being 3 Years old (but we have only done 3000 miles, so oil change not needed) how do I get it switched off. Will I need to go to dealership - it’s a Peugeot boxer auto sleeper.

Was the first service done at 2 years old?
This is required regardless of mileage.
If you look on youtube there are a number of videos showing you how to reset the warning light.

Te be honest I'd be changing the oil - oil does degrade over time even (some say and especially) with low mileage.

But nevertheless there is a way, someone will be along shortly. If you feel lucky...............

Sorry can't answer your specific question but assuming your oil been in for 3yrs then IMO your oil defo needs changing even if only done 3000miles.!!!

With such a low mileage and particularly if stored outside, I would change my oil annually at least.
These lights have commercial operators in mind, foot to the floor from morning to night or longer, hot oil and castings quite possibly 3 years is ok, well at least ok for the first owner who rarely keeps it 3 years.

There was s a sequence of holding down the accelerator pedal, holding down the brake pedal and turning the ignition key so all dash lights show( don't start the engine).wait until the oil change message comes up and release the pedals.turn ignition off and then back on again and message has gone .
I would also recommend you change the oil after 3 years it's cheap enough and easy to do
But check the internet for the correct sequence to turn the message off.

Blimey, I’d have changed it 3 times by now. While oils are good, the wear and tear on the engines and all associated swarf it produces doesn’t change. The sumps might be bigger to cater for the extended service periods, but ain’t no way I’d leave oil in for that length of time.

I know it’s been in the ground for a billion years, but not under load, high temperatures from combustion and pre refinery.

The Op does not state engine, for a Euro6 Ducato it has an oil life algorithym in the ECU that needs to be reset on oil change or it will put it into limp mode. Thus at a service 2 service items have to be reset by computor programs, the 2 available to the home mechanic are Multiecuscan (windows) and Alfaobd (windows and android versions)
I am not an oil Technologist, my simple view
Modern oils for modern engines (this does not apply to A series engines or MGBs) are quite complex and are designed for working engines not Motorhomes sat still for 3-6 months. The synthetic esters used can have acid structures within the chains that degrade with separation (but not if stirred) and form acids that you dont want circulating . The main form of degradation is oxidation of additives (once additives used up it is no longer the oil it was designed to be and offer same properties.)Nitrogen in form of NOx is also involved in degradation. Very High temperatures can be a problem.
Main source of oxygen for oxidation is water in the oil. In winter Condensation is a good source of water for degradation. If the oil is brought up to temperature (greater than 100C) the water is driven out and manageable levels maintained. hence the reccomendation for weekly/ monthly runs. If you don't acid formation accelerates. This doesnt happen with mineral oils and some older additives in the same way. The more you use it you reduce oxidation potential and increase possible contamination loading (soot and combustion products) Hence 6.7l sumps and 20000mile lives (if used).
so in a sentence, use it regularly or if stood for 6 months change oil Even before starting. For Low mileage MotorHomes replace every year . If you don't it wont fall apart tomorrow but you are not extending its life.
