Hi All,

Really enjoy all your experience and advice and hoping to be the recipient please:nerd:, I've just read the latest green card thread and am now panicking (slightly) that I've missed some crucial piece of paper/document/cable hook up etc etc etc etc......... Or just interested in tips or overnight spots/places to avoid etc from anyone done this trip recently or crossed any of the countries involved.

Super excited to be leaving this weekend in camper for Bulgaria:giggle:. Done the drive pre-covid in a car, but never in the van (new since then). Have a whole 5 weeks off work:Grin:

Camper sound and serviced, passport up to date, ferry ticket (not P&O ),have a shiny new GHIC (Thanks to MFun tips), insurance all in place for everywhere we may go - France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and return via Greece, Albania, Croatia, Italy is the loose plan) except I've just realised Albania is not on this list? I'm thinking will have to contact insurance, why is it missed off? anyone Know? Can I just add it to policy (Aviva via agency)?

Have 2 full gas, electric cable with one continental adapter, any clues on hook up in other countries? Planning to camp for free/off grid wherever possible and campsite occasionally for ease.

Any top tips or info - cheapest fuel? best wild camping? rules to avoid? tips on not getting into trouble generally would be appreciated hugely! Hope all here get to enjoy some freedom this year🛣️,

Cheers, Jeniflower

Lol yes, quite.

Thanks for that!

Last time I went through Albania I bought insurance at the boarder (not that it’s worth anything) - oddly enough did that exact trip by motorcycle a few years ago, now on our way to Bulgaria but having a few weeks in France first.

where about sin Bulgaria are you going?

We are doing similar departing tomorrow. On the way out though getting the ferry from Italy to Greece before heading into Turkey. Couldn't find a UK based insurer that would cover Albania with a Green Card (we are with Saga as they are the company that provided us the most options for Green Cards), so on our return which will be (depending on the prevailing circumstances), via Bulgaria, and then Greece, Albania, Montenegro and Croatia it seems you can purchase Albanian insurance at the border for about 40 Euros. We will see how we feel about that nearer the time (also depends on the situation in Ukraine, as our original plan of Romania was beginning to feel a bit risky to us.

Hi Roddos & Mark and Jo,

Thanks for replies! Ok well that's good news re Albania, we can keep it an option - I'd really like to go and see it :giggle:! I did phone the insurance in the end and they told me impossible to insure from UK due to B*****T.

In answer to Roddos we heading to Vratsa, an hourish north of Sofia, bought a house near there (it had a roof anyway...) there a few years ago and we very slowly renovating - great area for climbing (not me), and we working in UK so not happening very fast. We wanted to develop a little campsite maybe just for a few campers there but that's w-a-y in the future, however do have a bit of space if you passing and looking for a park up, is however via a dirt track of variable maintenance - we hoping to do it in fiat ducato base camper:oops: - I can hear the rattling already!

Best of Luck Mark and Jo, sounds great, we will probably pass each other in Greece or somewhere! Hoping for warmth:sun:

We’re currently in Millau and it’s very warm, feels about 24,
Jennie we’ll be eventually heading towards Burgas/Sozopol but if we pass your way we’ll call and have a coffee👍

24 sounds fab. You would be very welcome! We should be there 8th may ish for at least couple of weeks.
