Did it last year just look at the website and have fun. We did it anticlockwise and missed out the lop right corner as a lot of reviews said it wasn't that good but added a quick nip over to Skye. Went in May which is the latest to go and avoid the worst of the midge season and avoid bank/school holidays if possible. The top of Scotland and west coast was fantastic maybe call in at Applecross and before that the Clachtoll site which was nice. We did 1/2 wild 1/2 sites lots of things to find/look at. Can come up with more ideas if you like but I'm sure you will enjoy exploring yourself. Search for sites is usefull for finding places to stay and the wildcamping app

Hi @The Wino

Did you mean the Top Left or did you mean the Top Right.

We went Clockwise but cut down via the Altnaharra campsite . That was a very nice site although some may be put off by the Brownish Fresh Water until they have tasted it. No it hasn't got any whisky in it, unfortunately.

Going back in may, arisaig is stunning,we stayed at silversands campsite, the best sunsets we have ever seen, they sell really good beef at the small shed, and if you pass a smoke salmon sign on route at a house buy some as it is amazing. Will probably do outer hebredies if the weather is kind, skye is worth a trip can get really busy though. Our route will start at Lake District for a few nights, loch lomand c& c site near luss, bunree, Glencoe, arisaig, oban for the ferry to oh. Last time we went to the Orkneys which is a long trip but incredible, journey. Take your time and enjoy the scenery

I think we did it over 2 weeks from Leicester. We are used to driving fairly long distances every day my sister in law lives 450 miles from Calais which w normally do in a day!. We tend to follow the weather but went first to Oban then over to Inverness then around the nc500 missing out the top Rt. The weather in the west took a turn for the worse so we went back to Inverness for a few days then back west to Skye finished off with a couple of days in Edinburgh on the way down straight back from there

We intend to do this anticlockwise in September/early October. Using some sites and wilding. Any hint and tips would be useful.
Phil.
Empty and fill every chance you get and keep a couple of emergency meals in the van in case you find a great spot nowhere near any shops. If you are near any shops especially small privately owned ones make sure you use them and say you are in a m/h

Hi...newbie here! We're off on Saturday for a week to do part of the NC500 and I'm trying to decide if to do Inverness to Ullapool or Inverness to Scourie then down the west coast? The Scourie route is single track! Any suggestions welcome!
