Hi All,
I will be picking up a new Carado T447 at the end of May as the Auto Trail Apache that I ordered had the delivery date put back again so I cancelled it, I went for the Carado because of the large garage as the Apache has, however, the only drawback is that it has no Arial or Satellite Dish so I am looking at another way to have some form of TV until I bite the bullet maybe and get a dish fitted.
Do any of you use MIFI or dongles? I am a bit vague on this subject so could anyone let me know what are the advantages/disadvantages? please.

Heavy on data use costs unless you have an unlimited contract.
Need a VPN when abroad to get UK TV channels
Obviously need a good signal for streaming.
Dongle too reliant on finding a good WiFi signal

Surely only if you’re using site Wi-fi or a domestic sim? We have no problem getting iPlayer, ITV Hub etc, tethered to Vodafone sim (with hefty data allowance!)

I agree the Avtex STH300 is good for tv in the U.K.
We are using a mixture of satellite and Amazon fire stick in France. Fire stick works well with Vodaphone 100gb for £20 contract, once you select the best roaming provider, using IPhone hotspot. Fire stick sound quality seems poor and find using satellite better for me as I have two hearing aids. Hence a mixture of both(y)

Maxview Remora 40 is a portable sat dish which uses 2 large suckers on outside of our motorhome
and works very well with our Avtex Pro TV. Think its around 100 pounds for the kit.

How far south in France do you get a signal?

Getting better month by month.
I took the Status TV aerial out of our MH and replaced it with a roof mounted 4G aerial from motorhomewifi. (y) Like @Landy Andy above, I wouldnt bother with TV or Sat on a new MH. We have a SatFi System, used only for the Grandson when he comes to visit, but it's now become one of the most expensive radio aerials ever. MiFi with a good data package and Amazon Fire Stick is the way to go. When away on holiday, we dont watch TV.

Get the dealer to fit a TV Ariel as part of the deal
Carados come prewired for TV

I suppose the lack of a tv aerial or dish will not affect the resale value so its the cost of getting one fitted vs the cost of a data contract I bet the mifi plus date is cheaper and data packages keep getting bigger and cheaper all the time

Well done for cancelling the Autotrail - you've probably saved yourself a whole load of hassle by cancelling the order.

Enjoy the Carado - it looks like a right smasher

Thank you, The more I think about it the more I am sure that I made the right decision, Auto Trail put the delivery date back twice and still could not guarantee the delivery date and I just lost confidence in them and their product in the end.
I was a bit restricted for choice as we need a big garage and the Carado fits the bill nicely plus it has way more payload ! , looking forward now to picking her up .

Make sure it hasn't got an aerial first all Hymer's have a TV aerial but most of the dealers don't know or understand. Older Hymer's they were concealed lastest ones a whip on the roof does radio & TV. Need to enable 5 volt antenna power on the TV for the amplifier.

Cello are great TV's, but the smart element in this model is Android 4, and I believe it will not run all the latest apps such as Amazon Video. Their 24 inch is faster this runs Android 7 and will run most apps, but it is a bit big.

We use the Avtex aerial STH3000 and the streaming apps via a firestick all works well. Most of the time the aerial is sat next to a window in the van.

The Satellite on the Apache probably wouldn’t have worked anyway. After 6 months of ownership, it developed an intermittent fault where the dish won’t raise. Dealership doesn’t care, they can’t repeat the issue so no fault even though I have shown them videos of the box stalling. Max view worse than useless, Autotrail just as bad and as for Perthshire caravan oh ma heid, they are rude and ignorant, never again. So, good luck with the new MoHo (y)

That will be the original Fiat radio aerial.
Is there a co-ax cable by where the TV is mounted? If so it probably has a TV aerial. The Germans use an F connector for the aerial same we use for satellite.

There is not a tv mounted at the moment so I am a bit unsure, they normally fit them above the fridge cabinet I have noticed I will know a lot more when I pick her up at the end of the month.

We hardly ever watch TV, either at home or in the van. Even before I removed the satellite dish when it broke for the third time, we only seemed to use it for Radio 2. Nowadays we tend to only watch downloaded programmes, which I take with us on a portable hard drive, via the laptop and if the van radio won't pick up R2 maybe use the mifi - data usage isn't very much on just audio.

To be honest it's often quite refreshing to stay "out of touch". You should try it sometime!

Hi Millsy.

Congrats on the Carado. We’ve had a T449 for a year and it’s a fantastic van.

The garage is nice and large. We get four adult bikes in ours (front wheels off, and I’ve built a slideout base on heavy duty drawer runners to make getting them in and out easier). The other side I’ve built some shelves next to the gas locker. It just makes storage easier.

We had no aerial or TV either - but it is all pre-wired above the fridge. A simple job for the dealer to fit an aerial and your roof guarantee is maintained then. I bought a 12v TV from Amazon... largest I could fit into that sliding bracket when closed. You’ll need a longer drop cable for the aerial so you can slide the telly full out.

Enjoy the Carado. You don’t see many this side of the channel, but they seem more popular over the water.
