different system on my RV.

whether you use dry or with water the blade remains closed.
press the flush pedal only for water...blade pedal for both blade and flush.

once finished you press the floor pedal and the blade opens and the flush starts automatically.

i generally flush around 1/2 ltr of water in first (170 odd liter black tank so not a problem) but even if used wet we still get the odd 'skid mark' so a bog brush is at hand.

Tough one this (depends what you have eaten) if you think its going to be a big jobbie then you could open the flap so the waste can go streight in or you could find yourself pinned to the ceiling ...

Ever since I found out that the previous owner of my MH had not emptied the cassette (I vomited x2) I have not been able to empty the cassette if there are any 'jobbies' in it..I devised a way of the odd emergency when one has to make a deposit.....I have a tomee tipee travel potty, put bag in said potty with some loo paper, place on thetford, do the deed, tie up, then double bag and dispose....Job done so to speak....

And you paid good money to do this?
