Hi folks Just joined the forum as are due to take delivery of our first motorhome on 11 September. It’s going to be a busy few weeks selecting the list of accessories we need and getting them ordered. I’m sure this forum will be invaluable in assisting with the kitting out. Can’t wait to get on the road! Cheers all. Carl and Alison

Thanks all for such a warm welcome. I’m sure this question has been asked before but does anyone have a list of ‘must haves’s‘ before they set off on their first adventure? We’re literally collecting on the 11th then heading to Angelsey for 3 nights, then the north wales coast then not sure where after that. I’m sure we’ll learn what we really need along the way but any tips in advance would be much appreciated!

Hi and welcome, for the first trip just pack essential stuff and take a pen and paper this way you can make a list of things you need. After about 5 trips check each list and you’ll see what was missing or you could do what most of us do and buy loads we don’t need 😂😂

STOP! STOP! STOP! Don't buy ANYTHING until you know you NEED it. The caravan accessory shops make a fortune selling over-priced "stuff" that is nice to have but really not needed. Most of us have got half a shed full of "nice to have" things that were never used and took up space and, more importantly, payload. Initially you can raid the kitchen at home for most of what you'll need.

However a means of topping off the water tank - a clean watering can is fine.
A proper hook-up cable, which ought to be supplied with the van.
Tin/bottle opener.

are handy.

Oh, and by the way, :welcome4: to the Fun. Eciting times ahead!

We keep plastic crockery (that doesn't smash/damage the surfaces) and cutlery that lives in the van, so you don't have to load every time. Same for bedding etc. It just makes it easier to get away if all the basics live in it, rather than need to be loaded every time. Just wash bedding after every trip. You will need to work out how you are going to load water/unload grey water. What you need for this will depend on your van and the sort of places you camp in. A wild camper without gravity feed water will need different equipment to a big site camper with a big funnel on their water inlet. There will be plenty of other stuff you need that you'll only realise during your trip. Plan it somewhere near a big supermarket and take a credit card!

Always open overhead lockers VERY carefully when you arrive at your destination. Even small plastic bottles are heavy enough to put large holes in your worktops when they fall out. (The voice of experience!)
