Want to cram as much camping in as possible over the next few months...

Visiting old haunts from when we were in the New Forest DA.... (I was CCJ leader back in the 70`s for a while with the CCC.... :Eeek::giggler: ..)

So looking for a nice site in or near the forest so we can go back and visit = Mudeford - Barton on Sea - Milford on sea - Lymington etc... for a week or so...

Any suggestions and links please... (Must have EHU. and be dog friendly..)

:dogthanks:

Ashurst used to be good but I've not been for five years. Very handy for pub and railway station.

The C & MC Centenary site at Bransgore is reasonably well placed for those places. We have stayed there a couple of times. I believe Back of Beyond is also good but not stayed there ourselves.
Last year we visited the Sammy Miller motorcycle museum, petrol heads can waste hours there

Mo...................Hill cottage Farm and Campsite...............just suit you old chap!

Kev ;) (y)

We stayed at Setthorns in November last year, for the best part of a week on one of their ‘select’ pitches. Right in the forest, dog friendly, hookup included lots of walks right past/through the site.

Would be fantastic with lighter evenings and sunny days - we certainly intend to go back!

Second the Longmeadow campsite, been many times and never been disappointed

Long meadow part of the New Park Farm at Brockenhurst. Absolutely lovely, was there Friday. Or the centenary site at Bransgore, which is lovely. Homesley c&CC site opens next week and is very nice. The Homestead at West Parley, I know the owner and it is a lovely 5 up site

New Forest DA Officially invite you to attend one of their meets too. We have a few on the list with hook up. Maybe consider attending our Birthday meet and Queen's Jubilee at Church Farm Sixpenny Handley

John and his dad had the site next to me in Nutbourne, you would not meet a nicer and more helpful family😁
I built most of the roads and did landscaping for them before they moved…
I am due a visit to see them…

Cheers, John.................. Been to most you mention.... (y)

But over 40 years ago.... :blusher: so don`t know if they have changed for the good or bad...

Spent many a few weeks there with our two boys...

Sixpenny Handley was one of our favourites when in the N.F.. DA... (y)

My favourite site is the CAMC Black Knowle site in Brockenhurst. Been many times. Lovely walk into town and right on the outskirts of Ornamental Drive. Perfect … and make sure you try the Snakecatcher pub. Great food and good ale.

C&CC don't have their own sites in the New Forest - I wouldn't call their Verwood site as part of the main forest area. C&CC operate the Camping in the Forest sites such as Sethorns, Holmsley and quite a few others. These sites can be very big, Holmsley is potentially 600 pitches. Only Sethorns and Holmsley offer EHU. Sethorns is a wooded site, can get a bit muddy, parts do have the wildlife wandering through, no toilet/showers. Holmsley is wide open, but fenced so no ponies (they are just outside the site), was part of a WWII airfield so retains the dispersal areas as hardstandings so a fair bit of concrete, has toilet/shower blocks and even a shop with takeaway. Both sites will be a fair distance from anything.

Haven't used Longmeadow. Nice looking site have walked through a few times. Seems to have all necessary facilities, and even a pizza type van at times. About a couple of miles from Brockenhurst.

Greenwood is a small CL. Run by a very old couple and not sure how much longer they will be able to keep it up. They are getting a bit pricey due to the EHU costs. Well maintained, there is a toilet, but I always used my own. About half mile from a pub but the road has no footpaths.

Brenda's family owned all the land where the Holmsley and the Centenary site are, which was requisitioned at the outbreak of world war 2 and never given back. Brenda lived locally there, and when the site that is now the Centenary site was built, her dad built the shower and toilet blocks. The owners, who sold to the club are family friends

The whole area up there was a bomber base occupied by Canadians and there is a memorial there to lost airmen.

Another vote for the Longmeadow campsite, we’ve stayed there a couple of times. Would be good if you took your car as I don’t think you’d be able to walk as far as Brockenhurst or Lyndhurst. Very flat for short walks though. You may be lucky if you go at the weekend when they have a mobile pizza van, it’s very good, Wombles would agree. I think on a Thursday they do a pie night. They do a breakfast bap at weekends so Nick was very happy!

Holands Wood for me, easy walk into Brokenhurst and nice hotel close by for drinks and food.
