Hi there and welcome 👍

Not good news for you, i think your options are likely to be new or reconditioned engine.
If the engine has been starved of oil sufficiently to snap the cam belt then something has seized, it’s more than likely it’s wrecked.
You could spend a small fortune on a rebuild and still have doubts about it’s condition.

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
The garage have said the top half of engine hasn’t been getting and oil so ceased and that is why the cam belt snapped
That is rather unusual, but possible, although 'top half of the engine' is a rather vague description for a mechanic to use as it could be a piston seized in the bore or the camshaft seized or something else.
Has the garage stripped anything to inspect and enable them to determine for certain if or why something has seized?
What year and capacity is the engine? When and how many miles ago was the cam belt last changed? It could be that the cambelt broke and the engine won't turn because a piston is jammed by an open valve.
Is the garage known/familiar to you or is it one that just happened to be near to where you broke down?

This a valve stuck in a piston...........

I'm guessing the garage has had the rocker cover off to check for a seized camshaft then ?
Not an unheard of phenomenon if the oil galleries are blocked or have sludge in them from a high mileage/poorly serviced engine.
Worst case scenario will be a replacement engine.
