using my Workzone multimeter, replace the internal battery with a rechargeable, I think i'm getting some issues with the readings, could it be that multimeters dont like rechargeable batteries?

Why type of battery does your multimeter recommend? You can get rechargeables in various 'flavours' so it might simply be that the one you're using is not suitable.

Most issues with re-chargables is the mAh rating

you'll probably find Eneloop work.

BUT Before buying Eneloop which are very expensive have a look at IKEA Ladda, we use them in wildlife cameras having been tipped off by the supplier.

... or simply use a non-rechargeable battery ... they last a very long time anyway!

You must use your meter a hell of a lot Dave to need rechargeable.
Mine has had the same 9v dry battery for longer than I can remember... Possibly 2 or 3 years.

The battery is a pp3 the only one I had in the house was a rechargeable one,so I may simply buy a replacement..

Have a fluke DVM that came with me when I retired 4 years ago, The Meter and Battery are still fine and happy as I am having retired.

Fluke ain't cheap, when handling elecy bits, pays to know the kit your using is reliable. Which is why for many years the ONLY approved tester for proving dead was the Martindale neon voltage tester.

But have many years with VOLTAGE TESTERS,, if working on anything that might be live, check meter on a live circuit, check circuit wahat you think is dead, check again on live circuit to confirm all is as expected.
