Just taken ownership of our Elddis 155 based on a Peugeot Boxer. What security devices do you recommend - wheel clamp, steering wheel lock (stick type or disc?), clutch clamp etc?

Any advice gratefully received. Having finally taken the plunge we don’t want to see it gone.

Cab Thatcham dead locks, especially if you're using Aires (y)

Nothing will stop them, but you may be able to slow them down. Don't leave anything of value in the van, better still don't take valuables at all. We take 2 credit cards ( mastercard and visa) and passports when abroad plus some times a cheap camera.

Fit a small key operated safe too. I bolted ours down in the bottom of the wardrobe with 2 x M10 bolts. Most thefts are smash and grab they won't bother trying to get in a safe that may have nothing much in it.

There are some pedal locks out there but not any for the comformatic ie no clutch pedal,

I know these are not 100% but it will make a lot of noise removing it.

That's the idea ,to delay them long enough that I arrive back & can kill all & every one of them .(y)

We have the same deadlocks as in the first post, a tracker and bars on the window.

The bars are so we can have the window open during the day with or dog, more than security. You can just see one of the deadlocks on the door.

This is quite good as well :D

I think deadlocks are a good idea on a PVC but on a coachbuilt are of little value its so easy to break in through the hab door even with extra locks on it. I think immobolisers wheel locks etc are a good idea as it will help stop the van beingnickes trying to stop theft from it isa lot harder but would go for a decent alarm (I haven't got around to it yet!!!). I am thinking of fitting some flashing blue leds in the side skirts as a cheap deterrent. Have fitted hyke locks (ford) and an obd port lock

Popped into our local petrol station this morning to stick some diesel in my truck and the guy behind me was taking no chances.
Note the steering wheel security device he has put on while he goes to pay for his fuel.

Generally use Disklock, rotate the drivers seat through 180 degrees and padlock, plus a few other things ;)

but took a view if they want to get in to steal loose items they will. Windows and roof lights are by far the weakest points

we have 3 furry security specialists, who will strip the meat off the bone of any hand entering a window illegally

Hi my experience is , we have a exterior deadlock on hab door. We were burgled near Rouen France . They broke the quarter light on road side , reached in opened the door. We now have a chain that goes through each arm rest and the steer wheel.
Again it slows them down , they can still pull off windows on the Van Body , so a well installed alarm may suit. No one solution is 100% , a well thought out reliable workable combination will minimise the chance of a distasteful experience.

They're not very good deadlocks if they can reach in and open the door. What type are they?

I use mine all the time along with multi fuel pump isolators . Even use them at home when it is left completely unlocked in a gated property.

I read it as the deadlock is on the habitation door but the robbers broke in through the quarter light of the cab doors. Same reason I use a chain/ratchet strap across cab doors.

Yep that’s the real easy access, the cab doors. They use a nail punch on the quarter light glass, one belt with a hammer and it shatters. They reach in and open the door from the inside. The chain across the cab from one area rest to the other stops them getting in easily. Again it slows them down , if you are unhappy with graffiti etc around DONT Park there move on is my advice.

With my Ducato PVC, if I triple tap my key fob to lock, the lights flash again and it deadlocks the doors. You can't open the doors from the inside. DON'T lock yourself in that way overnight though.

Also read that motorhome are not stolen because the thieving gits want to go a travelling but motorhomes are generally low mileage versions of vans (Boxer, Ducato etc.) and therefore are wanted to be stripped for parts

These have already been mentioned, this is our in "sleep" mode but they also have a "not present" mode when being taken for a walk which is why we have an alarm and additional door locks. :)

Just like my pal's Molly. As soon as they arrive at events she installs herself for the duration in my m/h for the peace and quiet away from the silly noisy old boozy folk.
