Just looked back at the info i've collected over few years and compared prices to this years NEC show.
It looks like all prices are increasing 5% year on year.
However how many people get 5% pay rise year on year. Is food, fuel going up 5%

A £80k motorhome will be £125k in 10 years time and £165k in 15 years time. Staggering aint it...

Seriously is this substainabe?

Appreciate Euro has made an impact in last 12 months but general costs aint gone up that much surely.

Can anyone remember what a £80k Motorhome for instance Hymer, Rapido, Burstner etc cost back in 2007? Was it really £50k? Have they constanstly increased 5% year on year?
I know improvements have been made but like Jim said in a recent thread seem to have stagnated somewhat atm yet rices still increasing.

Appreciate lots more people coming into the market and purchasing a MH however surely the bubble has to burst at somepoint?

A small scale example:

When I was buying stock at European flea markets last year the exchange rate was 1.14 Euros to the Pound.

Last month it was 1.05 - that's an 8% drop in the buying power of my Pound.

My prices to my customers have had to increase as a result, to maintain my margins. Most of my customers are happy with what I charge for things - I don't do silly prices.

As I buy stuff on holiday my additional spending doesn't include increased fuel, ferry, toll and accommodation costs. If I was someone who took an empty transit van to France to buy up stuff for an antique shop and returned with it full, those additional costs would also be part of it.

On that basis, 5% doesn't surprise me in the least.

But hey, we got our country back. :)

I bought my 3.0 litre Hymer B544SL new from Germany in 2007 for £42,000, Brownhills price for the same spec was £65,000. Nearest comparison I can find now is a 588 at £87,000 but no underfloor storage and of course 2.3 engine so not quite the same spec.

Interestingly Travelworld have the same year and model as mine on sale at £39,995. I have been offered an excellent part ex figure on mine if I decide to change, it’s the least depreciating vehicle I have ever owned.(y)

Yes these rising prices keep depreciation down. Saw a van like ours at the dealership in Wales where we bought it. 3 years old, less mileage than ours grantedly, but only about a grand less than the original new price. So your existing van will pay for a bigger chunk of the new one.(y)

More people in the world all placing demands on the world's resources.
Prices will inevitably rise, with the number of 'wealthy' growing every day.
I'm beginning to notice more Eastern Europeans becoming motorhomers, more Asians hiring vans across Europe too.
Even for us 'Europeans', pensions and other assets are doing very well, the 'wealthy' ain't struggling..
There's plenty of money in the world, it's just flowing to different places...

Reviews are good reference for prices

I Germany they are building and selling £250k and £500k motorhomes and selling them like there is no tomorrow, I remember looking at the NEC when we still had a caravan so about 8 years ago and a Hymer S class was £100k then, ours was £100k new in 2006.

Are they pricing themselves out of the market? NO because people are buying them.

It doesn't seem that long ago that £50k would buy a brand new luxury 8m tag axle MH. Now that £50k price barrier is below that of many specced-up PVCs. Even some entry level coachbuilts are £50k or more after adding an option "pack" or two that includes what we think of as basic necessities. Clever marketing, huh?

I also get the impression that nowadays more buyers seem to use some kind of finance for a MH purchase. As with the new car market, that perception of the "affordable" monthly payment allows stealthy price hikes year after year. The list price becomes no longer very relevant to the buyer, and neither is the total cost of ownership as long as interest rates stay on the floor.

Reality still exists in the private seller's market where you can find bargains. Also, self-importing new MHs.

I guess you could argue that 10year loan at 3.9%pa when prices are rising at 5%pa makes perfect financial sense..

Motorhomes are now meeting the market requirements for more gadgets in the cab like cruise and safety equipment like air bags and fancy lighting which has increased the basic manufacturing costs in the last ten years .

There is a lot more in my new motorhome than I had in my 20 year old .

I ordered a German motorhome last year for delivery in November this year not knowing how the exchange rate would change and looking at the new prices now and what we ordered we saved over £10 k .

When you start looking at component prices in modern motorhomes you can see where the cost has gone up . Just the fridge for example is £1600+ which my older motorhomes would be maximum only half that .

The 709F was only 5.56m long so quite a shortie and heavily discounted at the time, as a more direct comparison I know that then a 740F was £36,000, which would probably be a fairer comparison.

When I looked at a buying a new tag axle a AT Chieftain G in 2008 it was £59/60 k a equivalent Frontier now at 2018 prices would be about £80 k .

I know last year over the exchange rate the European manufacturers put a 10% increase on the prices with the possibility of another 5% that could be implemented during the year but exchange rates settled and it looks like it was held it this years increase .

I know I waited till the NEC last year and it cost me 10% price increase .

When you can get a decent spec LWB Peugeot Boxer for £14k it shows what money they're making. Our next van I'll build myself.

Must be a mostly due to exchange rates, German prices don't appear to have gone up this year. They often increase 3% but this year we appear to have better models with more featurers at the same same price so in effect a decrease.

Percentage increase, what's that all about .....you can beat the increases by buying as selling used vehicle via private sale. We made a profit of 69.7% on our VW T4 bought June 2014, sold April 2016 ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:
