Newish vans ..... 2014 on.... I understand that 30k seems to be a common interval between engine services these days. or 24 months whichever comes first. Is that interval around the same across the board with different makers? What about really low mileage, say less that 6000 a year, is that still a two year interval or do they recommend a more frequent oil change for really low mileage? Thanks

Meanwhile being old school I change my oil every 3000 miles. :D

My Sprinter gave a service warning at 12 months, despite only having done about 2000 miles in that time (it was stored for months before sale) so I did not get it serviced straight away. The extended warranty people told me that they would decline any claim as it had not been serviced in line with manufacturers schedule. OK, I take the risk and save about £300

Average milage just over 2000 per year. Now 13 years old. I used to get a service at 2 year intervals, but my local Ford dealer is now giving free European breakdown insurance with every service, so I now have it done every year.

Our Ford transit handbook says every 2 years , ( on our milage).
Ford agent says every year.

Will have that discussion next year. As just serviced( 12.5k mikes) oh and agent suggested a brake fluid change is recommended ...... hum.

Yep ford assist is a big consideration, but what is the actual evidence that a yearly services are necessary? When handbook says two yearly.

Engine oil and filters are beneficial for engine life long distances being normal for commercial vehicles but motorhomes dont run same amount or distances ie 1000 mls a week or 50k a year continually so more oil and filter changes make sense does not help all the oil draining down to sump after engine not started for a time though - some vehicles just like to clatter for quite a while though waiting for oil to circulate

When ours was serviced I asked about brake fluid and they did a boil test ( think that’s what they called it ) and the fluid was ok.

I didn't know that Robert but ours hasn't had a hab service in about 8 years, or not one that tick boxes and stamps a book.

Martin

EDIT should have added, chassis service very year.

2015 Mercedes, it required a first service after 1 year. I have gone another 2 years since and still have many thousands of miles before It says the next one is due. It is counting down the mileage to the next one, I think it gave me about 35,000 miles after it’s first service but there may be a point when time overtakes mileage. No doubt it will tell me, as it did with the first one.

Hymer requires annual underbody treatment and damp testing to keep the 10 year damp warranty going.
