Hi guys,

I would like to 'pimp my ride' in Morocco.

Thinking of fitting a full leather interior, an external respray and replacing the cupboards if possible.

Has anyone that's been over there done any of these things, and whereabouts?

Any ideas of what I should budget for these alterations?

Thanks!

Pinkie

I'm sure someone had seats etc done this year, and a few have had pictures painted on vans, don't know about resprays. One of the regular maroc crew will be along shortly I'm sure. I bet your both getting exited, not long now.

Wow, Pinkie. Good on you.. you do things whilst I am just thinking about them.... Well done. Keep us updated with what you have done.:thumb:

Thanks guys.

But there is a reasoning in the expenditure..............

I am going to rent my van out for most of the year, as I need the income.

I know loads of people on here will say "don't do it" but needs must!

Given that Poppy is going back into school after Morocco, I want the van looking really retro and cool, to try and get some cashflow going!

I'm thinking pistachio green, cream and silver................cream leather interior!

Naysayers - please hold your tongues "I'm not listening!!" :Rofl1:

ps. yes very excited - just trying to think of things to buy and resell when I get back - money, money, money - note to self - stop spending, start earning!!!! :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

From what Ive read I believe there is a lot of this kind of activity carried out around and outside Camping Atlantica Park at Imi Ouadda, which is close to Agadir. However Im sure experts such as Dave (Snowbird) or Steve (Tonka) will be along shortly and know of other providers and locations. You may end up having to visit several providers to get the whole job done i.e. paint shop, upholsterers, mechanical etc. :thumb:

See you there all being well

In view of the terrible way people treat rented vans logic says make it just good enough and rebuild it when you finish renting it because it will need it.

The other big problem with renting is getting insurance.

But with pink logic and drive you'll probably end up renting to a celebrity at £2K a week and their staff will keep it clean.

Well kind of wondering if Nigella Lawson wouldn't mind a deaf PA?!!!! As I'm assuming there is a position going spare! :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

But failing that, it's pimp my ride Morocco style.

My "Pinkie logic" is to stand out from the crowd and get a smart retro look, where hopefully, people will pay decent money and decent deposits and look after it. As it is, it is now starting like a dream, first every time, so no more battery problems and everything works.

Every person that has sat in the front seats has been 'wowed' by the comfort and view..............so I'm hoping I'm going to make some money this year from it. My luck has to change at some point.......!

Other than that, I notice "herbal Viagra" is a big seller on ebay! :Rofl1:

If at first you don't succeed!!!!

ps. already checked out rental insurance £1500 for the year, bit steep first year, but my insurance wasn't straightforward!

You'd probably have better rental potential if you lived darn sarf or in that London :Rofl1:

Yes possibly, but rather a moot point, since I don't!!!!

Anyway, Scotland is a very popular place for touring, some people don't mind the cold and are happy with the beauty!

I'm one of them, rather Iceland than Spain any day.

Firstly I have to decline any indication that I am an "expert" VERY FAR FROM IT...
More just a contact point for the forum.. Lots of others like Snowbird, Vwalan etc are the real experts and will no doubt comment...

Yes, there was an upholsterer on the campsite at Atlantic parc and I understand that for leather work then somewhere in Agadir may be the place.... As for re-sprays, never heard of it but seen plenty of people having pictures on their vans.. Not my cup of tea at all...

Pinkie, If your going to rent then just be aware of where you are situated and how people will get to you for collection.. Targeting people who want to do Scotland could be the best approach. Look into all the insurance issues etc.. This topic has been discussed many times so I wont expand it further...

Thanks Tonka.

No problem re. van delivery to Edinburgh Airport etc. for me. And insurance I have already looked into.

I wondered whether Fez might be a better bet for leather upholstery - does anyone know of anywhere there that does it? Just makes sense with the tannery there.

I've done a search of renting out vans, but didn't really come up with anything, but there is definitely a demand for Scotland, so I'm hopeful! Thanks. :thumb:

Im never really sure you exist or are just a figment of our collective imaginations, but providing you are really real, I think you could have nich businness plan, bespoke the van to a high standard and target the usa market. The americans (bless thier little fat arXXs) seem to love Scotland. Maybe you should look at some us sweb sites for advertising

good luck

Tiznit - is one place where I understand many of the French go to have their vans 'pimped' while they are staying in Morocco - if you can get into the main town camp site.

Thank you for that positive post, yes, I was planning on high end. Can't see a fat American being able to fit in my toilet/shower, just as well because I don't even want to empty my own cassette, let alone other peoples!

What is this about me not being real (again!) My photo's are on my profile page, of course I exist, and AM going to Morocco.

Thanks! :thumb:

Don't wish to appear negative but where will live whilst the work is being done?

It's Morocco, firstly don't envisage them taking too long and secondly, it's Morocco, will always be able to find somewhere to stay if need be!

I think I saw a snowbird post about Agadir being the place to get leather upholstery sorted.
Re re sprays, the Mustafa who repaired our van in Agadir does bodywork and re sprays and is very cheap.

Hi Pinkie
A couple of years back I went through Morocco in an old BMW as part of a adventure trip to Timbuktu in Mali.
The old car needed a suspension rebuild after some off-roading. We found the local mechanics to be superb, they are used to actually repairing stuff rather than simply changing parts which is now the norm in the UK. They are very skilled and very inexpensive, you will get a new best friend for life in return for some Euro.
With regards to body and internal trim you will need to ask about, most towns have a motor repair area and they will certainly advise you of where to go.
Fez certainly has a leather industry with the tanning industry, which is all a bit touristy.
I would start my search in Casablanca which is a good sized city with a fair degree of industry and some garment manufacture facilities and it's not too far from Ceuta which I assume is your entrance point on the Algeciras ferry.
If you draw a blank in Casa then the trip to Fez is easy down a new motorway.
Best of luck!,

Our old MB 608 had a 2 colour respray in Morocco (can't remember address offhand), in 2006. Cost €200. White top half & dark red lower half. Paint is still good now.

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for that, yes I've looked at a few sites and emailed someone that rents older hymers already, but he was going to get back in touch with me and didn't. There is a definite market, but as I only have one van and want to provide a more "bespoke" service, as many of them seem to get very mixed reviews. We shall see how it goes. But Morocco first! Thanks!

I had my previous motorhome resprayed and reupholstered there. Turned out a good job but the 5 days quoted turned into nearly 30 days camped in there yard. Painted in the open so only sprayed on wind free days. graphics done by hand and brilliant job........if you have plenty of time can save a load of cash......

Hi Roadrunner, that's a lovely job you had done there. Any rough idea of what they charged for reupholstery and paintjob? Just to work out a budget for it? Thanks.

About £2000 all in but had exhaust refurbed and electronic security system fitted plus deadlocks and I cracked shower tray while there and all done in price.

Really turned out well though although at the time wondered WHAT AM I DOING IN THIS YARD!:Rofl1:
