I have just been forwarded an email from 'the only Sue' which is from Sue & Dave Holden who are RVOC members and Moroccan stalwarts. In fact they were at the Southport Rally in October in their RV and are currently in the south of Morocco now, ahead of every one else off here. Below is the e mail.

1st December - After the Storm

Well....

We have weathered the storm, unfortunately there are a lot of people in Morocco that haven't, 40 or so deaths.

Most of Moroccco was affected, many houses, bridges, and roads have been swept away by the raging water.

Not sure what we will be doing next, we were supposed to leave here on Wednesday but not sure if we can, or want to. We went out on the Quad bike yesterday, 23 km into Tan Tan although the road was passable there were places where the water was still covering it, the dry land which we saw 12 days ago on the way here were just covered in water. In Tan-Tan people were just carrying on as normal, there was still a lot of water about (and sandy mud). The N1 road out, back to Guelmim was closed, the usually dry river bed was a torrent of muddy looking water raging over the bridge, and the army was not letting anyone near. Apparently a lot of the deaths were due to a bus and 3 taxis driving over a bridge that had the same raging water washing over it in Guelmim and they were all washed away.

We have heard that Guelmim has been hit pretty hard and our next port of call was going to be Sidi Ifni, we have been told that there is no camping there at the moment as all 4 campsites have been affected.

Part of the N1 at Taghazoute north of Agadir has been washed away, we have friends staying in Essaouira who we have not heard from for a few of days, although the internet and phones have been down, we got back on yesterday, we are hoping they are ok.

The like button is not appropriate for this so thank you for that report, there was a piece on the Morocco news that the King is committing money to help Sidi-Ifni , so sad that people with so little have this to contend with now.

Terry I have emailed Sue & Dave direct and asked to be kept updated via email. Will post if there is anything to report.

Have just try to get a ball park figure cost for the ferry crossing from Cadiz to Tenerife but its not playing ball. Portugal may be looking good.

Without wishing to go off topic ..... But,

Having done Teneriffe in a MH it's worth noting that:

It will cost a bit more than €200 to travel (we paid €1000 one way and then €850 to return after obtaining residency)

Campsites on Tenerife are few and far between (2 in the south and 1 in the north (with restricted opening)) as are opportunities for wild camping, they have clamped down on it there as well

Everywhere else We did enjoy just something about that site we where on it always felt gloomy

Was it the one under the cliff? Know what you mean as the sun didn't come round until late morning - unless you'd arrived in a French registered van in September and bagged the beach-side pitches! WiFi was crap too. However as all the others were queuing out the door, didn't have much alternative but still like Sidi Ifni.

I thought Sidi Ifni was a depressing place and the bloody wind never ceased. Had wind at the other end too after a dodgy fish tagine purchased from the camp site kitchen. Daren't leave the van for a day

Very true Carol, I'm still going and will way the situation up while I'm there, I thnk it's a case of If you don't go the people lose out again or are you being a hinderance by being there. At the moment I think it's the former,

I have recently purchased the latest (Dec) map for Morocco and it cost around £45-47.00 You do not need the map for the whole of Africa just the one that covers Moroc.

The reality is there are not that many roads in Morocco. The £6 Michelin map will get you round just fine. Any satnav can and has got people into trouble.

More important is listen to folk on here telling of roads they would never go down again.

You can get a decent electronics map for Android, free, look up Maps With Me, maybe also on Apple. Not a router but a stored map you can zoom in on and if you have GPS on the device will pinpoint your location.

Lovely paper map, bit of common sense and feedback off others in the country.

As Hilldweller states, not that many roads and the sat nav can just take "road A" but all the locals will tell you not to...

Michelin map for me, old school, always getting into bother with satnavs, never trust them. Anyhow I'm just going to follow Ken aka Canopus, so he can go down the first pothole and get lost first, ho ho
