Plans to set up a motorhome park at one of Ayrshire's plushest hotels have been lodged.

Bosses at Auchrannie Spa and Resort want to transform part of a car park to accommodate the vehicles overnight.

Chiefs at the 4-star venue on the Isle of Arran are looking to cash in on the vast number of motorhomes arriving on the island.

A statement from Auchrannie Leisure's director, David Johnston, states that they hope to create parking for up to eight motorhomes at an under utilised parking area.

Mr Johnston said that travellers would be charged and overnight fee to allow visitors to use their restaurants, leisure facilities, spa and existing toilets and showers.

The statement from Mr Johnson to North Ayrshire Council planners reads: "Having seen the number of motorhomes visiting Arran in recent years, and the very limited facilities for parking and disposal of waste on the island, we feel there is an opportunity to use an under-utilised parking area.

"We propose to use an existing car park to allow parking for up to 8 motorhomes overnight. We will provide access to power and waste disposal facilities (including foul water) onsite.

"With the facilities and services on offer within the resort, we can allow visitors an option to benefit from use of our restaurants, leisure facilities, spa and existing toilets and showers. We would charge an overnight fee with options for “add on services” TBC."
The plans come hot on the heels of another application to create a motorhome and glamping site on the west of the popular island.

Mr Johnson added: "The area we plan to use is away from the man building and is not overlooked by any neighbouring properties. As it is within an existing car park there are no access issues. There will be no change to the existing car park, apart from a loss of 8 spaces (out of up to 40 existing) reserved for motorhomes.
