MISSFUELED

Sorry,,, F#####d up.
Went to Asda to fill up the van and got a receipt as usual and off I go home check how many mpg I am getting.
As I sat down at the computer and read the receipt I suddenly noticed it said £58.00
unleaded... yes I had filled my diesel van with petrol.

So I 'phoned Nationwide breakdown insurance and was told they do not cover misfuelling... Gulp... but they put me onto a specialist who would come and drain the tank and get me going.
After about 3 hours the company turned up, drained the tank and put 10 litres of diesel in.
The cost of this service was £174.00. and I still had to fill the van again, another £60.00.
All in all an expensive day!
So bear in mind Nationwide don't cover this accident.
Any funster done this?

I am quite paranoid about doing this as I have a petrol car and a diesel moho.

Coincidentally, I saw one of these in a box of reduced stuff somewhere recently and have just fitted it inside the fuel flap.

If nothing else, the strange electronic voice will make me smile ?

It could've been worse, don't know why, no experience, but I'd always assumed this service was likely to be in the mid hundreds. That always focused my mind when filling.
At least none got in the engine, that would be expensive !

Sorry,,, F#####d up.
Don't want to alarm you but depending how far it is from Asda to home and the concentration of petrol/diesel it is absolutely not good for your engine and injection system...modern diesels are a bit more sensitive to having a mix than the old tractors. Having said that even I made the same mistake some years ago so don't feel too bad about it... ;) :)

Sister took the oil cap off the rocker cover and filled the engine with water. She then drove home and mentioned to husband that it took a lot of water to fill the screen was and why was the filler cap dirty. That was expensive to sort as they had to flush all the gunk out of the engine.

Friends filled their water tank with diesel in Luxembourg. Although the diesel was cheap getting it out of the tank was far more expensive.

When I had the 600 bike I once pulled up at a diesel pump ? all my other vehicles were diesel so it was 2nd nature ?

I did the same,Goldwing, long day regular garage, dark night.same pump filled with diesel.
Got out of first gear, second looked in my mirrors, billowing smoke then died.
Wasn’t such an expensive mistake as friends with the dealer who sold me the bike.
Came in his van, locked it in his garage, his mechanic drained it,changed filter, went like a rocket after, didn’t do any harm, only to the wallet

Yep! done that. Did not realise until van stopped pulling up hills and would not go faster than 50mph. Pulled into layby, phoned breakdown services. They were there in 30mins. Plugged his gadget into electrics, readings were all over the place. Van started ran ok. The breakdown followed me pulled into next layby, would not pull the skin off a rice pudding. Plugged electronics again all over the place he could not understand readings. Then he have you filled up today, then it dawned scramble to find receipt yep! Fill up with petrol. HELP NEW ENGINE ETC. no he says not a problem with commonrail engines. Petrol do not like diesel. Anyway the break down service could call his team out and sort it for£250, or to a local garage in Cheltenham for £170. So we spent the night on garage forecourt.
So £170 lighter and having to find a filling station, it was not as bad as I first thought.

Went to Asda's to fill up the van and as usual got a receipt

Not that long ago "you must have pressed the wrong button, it's showing diesel on this receipt".

"You filled with diesel"

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sh1t"

So £20 of diesel and £25 to garage to drain the tank. Luckily it was only a little motorcycle tank.

Any funster done this?
Yep, I have.

We have 2 cars (and the van), one diesel the other unleaded. Tired, I filled up the diesel car with unleaded. Drove about 3 miles, noticed the car wasn't running well and thought "damned Morrisons crappy fuel". Got home and realised what I'd done.

Cost about £200, but was pumped out that night - and so I went to work the next day as if nothing had happened (and didn't tell anybody apart from the Mrs - and now you lot!).

Did it once with a company car. Realised after a few litres had gone in, stopped, then filled up with diesel. Kept quiet about it, car was fine.
Plus, our first MH, playing with it when we got it home, thought the water tasted and smelled a bit funny. Soon became clear some twonk had put diesel in the water tank at some time. Luckily, the dealer sorted it, after some wriggling.

Out in the wilds of France somewhere..Picked up the black nozzle.. had put 10 litres in before I noticed the smell !
Fortunately my tank was VERY low so I just put another 60 litres of diesel in as well.. Absolutely no probs at all as luck would have it..
Mind you, it was that van ( Ducato 2.8 lump ) I also ran on filtered, used cooking oil, and when stuck in Ireland on a Sunday with a virtually empty tank, it got 50 litres of heating oil !

I've been lucky & never mis fueled a vehicle but, its a common occurence for police & ambulance vehicles.
My mate used to collect the drained fuel mixture for his lawnmower & the mechanics were only too pleased get rid of it.
There was method in my mates madness, he had a huge garden & the smoke kicked out by the mower kept the midges at bay!!!

I have never done this but if I had do you really think that I would admit it in public? Or even in the privacy of my own Home?

Yep. Been there, done that.
Filled a virtually empty 17 plate smartie with diesel.
Got home on petrol still in line, when I restarted after an hour, one very poorly smartie.
The nice AA came and drained it all out for £225, plus refill tank at another £30.

I did it once, long story and great excuse....

Called local garage, they towed me and used the lift pump to pump it out. Charged me £30...

I now know how to do it cheaply, but I think it is like catching your bits in your flies. You only ever do it once.

Good friend of mine was packing his van up to go away for the weekend but got distracted by one of his neighbours, he put the water hose in the diesel tank & turned on the tap he never noticed until it overflowed,
He had one of the misfueling companies drain the tank , this was two years & a lot of miles ago & it has been ok.
