Hello All, First posting!!
We've just returned from a short shakedown trip to France and wanted to pass on reassurances to those who have not yet used the Dartford Crossing. I found it very easy to register for the Dart Charge online and found that our 'crossing' had been debited within hours ( I found the 'Pay by midnight tomorrow' rather ominous).
Also whilst on the Subject of Tolls, we remembered to tell the M6 toll booth operator that we were Caravan Club members and got 50% off (£11 to £5.50)

My Brother in Law visited us a couple of weeks ago using the Dartford crossing with a joint prepaid account. He got a letter last week with a fine saying he hadn't paid!
He queried it, but even though it was obvious that he had an account with credit in it and his car was listed to use it, they refused to accept he had paid, but, as a "show of good will" they only charged him £2.50 instead of the full return fare!
Typical government owned business practice!

Apparently yesterday the queues at Dartford crossing were all the way back to Orpington. So much for avoiding congestion. It appears that the operators were pulling over all the car transporters to measure them so they could charge extra for an escort through the tunnel.

Generally stop on the way down but have taken the advice from others on here and will get an evening tunnel crossing and stop at Citie Europe or similar next time.
