So, we find ourselves with a couple of weeks free where we can get away in the van.
Having never been to Scotland and been saying that we will go there at some point, have decided to do it now, hopefully before the midges wake up!! So, in a couple of days we will be heading North.
Really looking forward to it.
How available is LPG in the more rural areas?
We are not trying to go all round, but will concentrate our travels on the west side, probably go to Mull, and up around via Ullapool to Durness.
Any pointers would be appreciated

LPG is not that common north of the border, however there is lpg available in Ullapool.

Just had a quick look at FillLPG and it does look like LPG filling stations are few and far between that far North. There is a station in Ullapool but details haven't been updated since July last year. The last confirmed available LPG according to FillLPG are clustered just North of Inverness in Yore and Dingwall. Last confirmed was in Dornoch just over 2 months ago. Lairg and Wick are showing as temporarily unavailable.

We filled up at Ullapool two weeks ago. Lochbroom Garage is a repair centre rather than a filling station and the LPG filling point is within the parking area. It was £0.87 per litre.

If you are only going for a couple of weeks will you need to fill up?
An 11kg bottle does me between 3 and 4 weeks at the minute , that's with water heater on 24/7 the fridge on automatic so is on gas whenever I'm parked up and for cooking which I do every day oven and hob.

There aren't many fill places in the north of Scotland but for 2 weeks you may not need one.

One of the apps mentions Oban, that one disappeared years ago. Nearest to Oban/Mull is Onich as posted above.

It’s a conundrum. I fancied Calorlite but that’s now officially discontinued.

So I thought 1 Glaslow, 1 calor might suffice but as for the foreseeable future we can only go away for a couple of weeks at a time, and often in Scotland, it seems as if standard Calor is the best option

I've been to Scotland a few times now with twin 11kg Gaslow system and never struggled with running low on gas if going up West coast fill just south of fort William then top up at ullapool if required you then have a few weeks or more of gas then fill again at Dornoch if coming down the east coast or back at ullapool if returning on west coast.

I would be amazed if you use more gas than you can get hold of just turn fridge down low when parked up you won't need much heating now and cooking uses next to nothing

Don't worry just go and enjoy the stunning drive and views before the midges come out in force

Just returned, found several places with pumps, West and East. Some ‘not working’ or ‘temperamental’. But didn’t have a problem in the end. Wouldn’t be over concerned.

I carry a 6kg bottle in the garage for the BBQ which also doubles as an emergency supply for the van. I have 2x gas low 11kg bottles in the gas locker and bought the gas low reserv cylinder connection hose which allows the use of standard cylinders.
