Just been told by a motorhome LPG fitter that fill points are no longer fitted to the bottle locker doors ?! Any thoughts or info regarding this … thank you.

Have a look at this post…

hi guys . France are funny now about GPL as they call it like m/ways you have to go inside & pay first before they switch the pump on plus a few have come to see where you are connecting it to so if you lift the door open & they see what you are filling they might refuse you that's why we have had our filler on the outside ( fitted on 3 m/h's now since 09 ) that's what we have come across . val

They‘re not supposed to sell it for domestic use, just propulsion, that’s why. It’s the same in Spain, Italy and Greece.
But they usually do.
We’ve only been refused once (in Greece) but we just went to the next fuel station half a mile away and filled up there. Now we fill the gas before we fill with diesel.
When we fitted the Gaslow system we put the filler in the skirt of the motor home so it looks like it’s going into a tank, not bottles in the locker next to it.

I’ve actually got my fill point inside the door and have only been stopped once from filling up and that was a month ago in Italy 2young men came out and said and I think that was not for where the fill was but because I was a Motorhome

Hubby put our filler point in the side next to the door as he said he didn’t fancy all the flexing the pipe work might get! That was years ago, it’s still all good, glad he did it that way!

Apart from the problems with the movement in pipes I'd much rather put a hole in my sill than the locker door.

The company that fitted ours put the filler in the door. I must admit I've never been happy with it, but 5 years on so far so good
I have to say that to fit it else where would be a tough job.
The main problem with now trying to put it elsewhere is what so I do with the hole that would be left where the original filler place is?

You could just put a vent cover in the hole..In the meantime don't open it just after filling in case it cracks due to the low temp of the LPG.

I was worried that my filler would have to go in the door but its surprising how small a hole needs to be drilled to fit the gas filler. They managed to get this one in the plastic skirt and put a reinforcement plate behind.
This was fitted yesterday.

Very bad practice to fit the filler in the locker door. I always have mine in the sill.
I agree,
so how and why are Gasit advertising the EU and UK approved inside fitting bracket ffor insdie the locker as here. Are these things accpetable in the EU

Yes it can definitely give problems when filling if you have to open the locker door !
The wording of that advertisement is certainly interesting to say the least !
That’s thermoplastic Faro type 8mm filler hose and it’s far from fast filling, it’s actually painfully slow and definitely not something that diy installers should be messing around with in our opinion .

I had to put our small filler in the only place available/suitable near the locker, I had only a few mm to play with too!

My filler is inside the gas locker ,so I have to open the door to access it ,but never had an issue filling up in the UK or abroad. (y)
on our previous van our filler was also inside the locker, we had an issue once in France and after being refused twice by the assistant at the till, the manager came out at my insistence and took one look at the professional gaslow installation and approved it immediately.

i think the issue has been with people opening the locker and topping up bottles direct into the cylinder itself - i dont blame the garages/service stations for wanting to be sure that the not only is the installation safe, but also the method of refilling.

In Portugal an assistant told me "we don't fill bottles" I pointed out the outside filler & told her it was a tank & she filled me.
IMO not worth the risk of fitting it in the locker, if you are low on gas and not another outlet for miles & get refused you are stuffed. It's no more work to fit a filler in the sill.

No more work maybe but it don't half concentrate the mind when you're about to put a hole in your pride and joy! :xeek:

I think the best place is in the skirt near to the locker , reason when you go to fill up its plane To see you are filling gas bottles and some garages do not like it

IF I replace my current van, I will fit the Euro filler. Much neater and discrete.
