Retrieved the motorhome from storage and preparing to leave for a break on 26th. Whilst checking the oil noted the oil filler cap was missing which was not ideal, esp given it is Xmas Eve. Tried everywhere local (inc the local Fiat dealer who was locking up), no luck.

Anyone have any suggestions as to a temporary solution?

Otherwise if anyone knows of any Fiat dealers / motorhome dealers / motor factors who might carry such an item in the Warwickshire / Gloucestershire / Hampshire areas that'd be great.

Cab is a 2012 Ducato 2.3.

What fine timing !

But if it has been missiing since you last checked the oil isn't there oil everywhere?

Would assume I've driven around 20 miles with the cap off. A little oil to the underside of bonnet and engine but not a great deal. Level ok on the dipstick.

Bit of tin plate and self amalgamating tape was the best plan thus far.

Got any vehicle breakers around? They're bound to have one, especially a commercial vehicle breaker. Try Google.

Although you've probably got no chance until after Christmas now.

Clean and degrease the rocker cover and gaffer/duct/gorilla tape to seal, the idea of an aluminium foil pad over the hole and lightly formed to the hole seems excellent to me. The key to success will be the cleanliness / greasefree of the area the tape needs to bond onto.

Polythene and an elastic band. That way you can see the turny bits turning inside (y)

I'm near rugby not using van over winter. If you need it happy to use mine and I'll sort one when dealers reopen
Ive sent you a PM with my mobile number

Geoff

I once used a round rubber door stop on a sierra gearbox, never bothered to change it and it never fell out

Will have another look in the engine bay later today, however did have a decent look already.

Geoff - that is a very kind offer. Will PM you directly.

Just a thought would not use plastic bag over as engine temp may melt. Whatever used make sure secure as crankcase pressure may blow off. Not sure on diesel what positive pressure they use (emissions ) also if engine a little tired may get blow by when hot

a best stay at home until fixed

Many, many thanks to Geoff for lending me his filler cap.

Would probably suggest not using a poly bag or tape. Whatever is used would need an element of heat, pressure and oil resistance - the cap itself being ideal.

Not self-amalg - it turns to jelly if exposed to oil.
