Just a little reminder to keep your solars clean. Hubby cleaned van a couple of weeks ago after getting access to our van for the first time since lockdown. He however, didn’t do the roof, saying ohh it’s alright, it’s not bad up there. Anyway now in York, in full sun and the panels, 200w worth were only giving max of 99w usually around 80w, in shade 3w. I eventually persuaded my dearest to pop up and give the panels a clean, there was small amount of algae but quite dusty, what a big difference, Now giving 14w+in shade and 151w in full sun.

I always carry one of these so I can give them a clean when needed.

I fitted mine so I can stand on the table, open the roof hatch and easily clean them safely. Just have to make sure the OH does not see me and I clean the table.

I usually access the panel through the roof vent too. Last week I was "up top" cleaning and polishing the roof so I included the panel as well after somebody posted a coat of polish would help to keep it clean.

Solar panels should have stay clean glass but of course that doesn’t work when there flat on the roof
pidgion s£&@ still sticks though! Ladder job and a long brush with water to clean mine

The frame restricts the water run off. Some manufacturers have incorporated water run offs in the corners. Only takes a little off level and they almost self clean. Except from heavy soiling. Also the type of glass it matters to. The anti reflective one encourages dust to stick to more than the flat glass.

I am so jealous of these adventures to clean solar panels and van roofs. I have to manage with the ladder fitted to the back of the Rienza and a careful shuffle from front to back avoiding stepping on the Luton.
Even so I only go up there once a year to clean the roof. I havnt noticed any less charging from the solar panel.

Yours looks bigger than mine   .Trouble is i dont have room to carry mine with me..BUSBY.
He always has to show off about his payload doesn't he!
