And a business man in Barcelona wanting to do a deal in London could easily fly to Palma and get a connection to London - cheaper for him than 2 weeks in a London hotel.

It would also destroy the economy, lead to a huge increase in UK infections, bankrupt me and depress a large majority of the UK population. It would also dent the European tourist industry a bit but they'd manage with the support from other European countries tourists

It is an unworkable idea.

But I completely agree with you.

It is pretty much what China did in their early stages and even prohibited internal travel.

Here I'm expecting the UK returnees, well some of them, will ignore the quarantine rules.

IIRC there was a grand total of 2 fines during the last England quarantine

Given that all European countries are taking similar steps to control the virus and revive their economles and spikes seem to all have similar causes - large gatherings, poor working and living conditions shouldn't the focus be on those? Closing borders willy nilly is not the answer - its a distraction - and just going to make economic recovery more difficult

This would only work if you ban travel within the UK as well. Our tourist destinations are dreadful, we could not safely stay at home and are currently staying safe in quiet areas of France

I know they have cancelled Heathrows third runway but they'd have to dump the other 2 after anything like that.

Leicester, Oldham, Rochdale and other cities have higher infection rates than Spain - should anyone that has visited any of those be quarantined ?

Not for the first time Bb lets remember how bad it was when we did nout about the Italian ski resorts, all badly infected from the Chinese migrant rag trade workers working in Milan. Schools going on holiday to the mountains were like lambs to the slaughter. Hopefully this quarantine proves that we did learn something from that first wave of this terrible virus.
