Hi

just wondering if Italy was dog friendly?

We have been going to Italy for many years with our dogs & never found a problem. They are accepted in most shops & restaurants, in Liguria they are also welcome in churches including during services, on public transport they are supposed to wear a muzzle. During the winter season we have found no problems going on the beaches & as long as you keep away from the holiday resorts they tolerated also in the summer. As with the Brits a large number of Italian motorhomers also have dogs.

We've been to Italy, including Sicily, three times and the only problem we've encountered was the heat. Dogs are accepted but it will depend in some places with the size of the dog. I've come across campsites which didn't accept dogs over about 8kg and of course a few sites don't accept dogs at all. I've seen small dogs being wheeled around supermarkets in the trolly but I think you might have a problem doing this with a GSD. :)
