Good morning.
My son and I have booked to go to Ireland in June for a week.
Am I being very optimistic in thinking that I can complete a full tour of Ireland, taking in the wild Atlantic way, in a week?
There won't be much stopping and visiting places as my son won't cope with that.
If not then what route do you kind folk suggest in order to have an amazing drive?

Thats a slog

Well all the way round is about 2400 miles, so in theory at 50 mph it would take 48 hours driving and you need 7 hours per day driving for that and your week gone

Better probably to pick a nice route to where you want to see, and do that part then go again, for the next etc.

Impossible - we've been twice for 3 weeks at a time and plan to return in May to see some of what we missed.

The Donegal coast is stunning and easily reachable from Dublin or Belfast but even without stopping, it's slow going so a week is not going to achieve very much I'm afraid.

I'd suggest turning right out of the port and heading up to the Causeway coast of N.I. Initially not as visually good but you'll see the Giants Causeway then close by the Bushmills Distillery. Then it's only a short hop over to the start of the Wild Atlantic Way which you could follow until it's time to head for the ferry. If you don't want too much driving both Dublin and Belfast, the latter for the Titanic Experience, are worth a day each.

Hi Camper Al. I don't know which port your sailing into. But don't rush around. Come back and do the Wild Atlantic Way in stages you won't be disappointed. Were in Ireland now got off the ferry in Cork 30th March. Stopped at the Aire in Cobh for 2 nights then did the Jameson Distillery and drove to Kinsale where we stayed for 3 nights. Set off round the WAW were only at Kenmare now. Were here for a month. We'll just poddle along then head across country to Dublin to catch ferry to Holyhead. Please don't rush you will miss so much. Good luck. Happy Travels.

Far too ambitious.
Concentrate on a much smaller area, slow down and enjoy instead of just driving through places.
Northern Ireland causeway coast is spectacular, lots to see and do, certainly fat too much to do in a week.
The scenery in beautiful and the people so friendly so you're sure to enjoy it.
Donegal has great beaches.
Oh and ........

Suggestion.
dublin to galway
then follow the wild Atlantic way to kenmare
back to Dublin on M7
Very good suggestion. Or, straight to Galway, park up on the quayside, enjoy the town for a week, don't forget the Kings Head, Shop St., tootle back to the ferries.
