Clumsy old bugger, washing motor home , only a gentle tap with brush and the top of the lens shattered.
Any ideas best source for lens only please ?

Don't they charge wow.

Its easy done though I have to take it steady when using the brush, you can easily catch the reversing camera or lights and damage them.

I think I’d make do with the best repair you can manage rather than pay that.
Take it off, it’ll be easier to sort out.

Fortunately it’s just on the top and temporary fix with matching grey gaffa tape will keep it dry.
May well try a semi permanent fix with a piece of plastic and araldite as the break is not on the lens area.

That’s crazy money for a piece of plastic, I guess expensive as not produced in huge quantities.

Worked in the car industry for years.
lamp units are 'tied parts' meaning there are not many alternatives (unlike say oil filters) , therefore you charge as much as you dare.

However that price reminds me of the marine stuff I used to buy

No, it's simply because it's a Hymer part!

Cost me nearly £200 for a wing mirror glass, the Spanish manufacturer of the glass saying I could only buy via an Hymer dealer!

They are Hella but OEM supply only so you have to get them from a Hymer dealer.
As it's OK for now, pick one up on your travels from a French/Belgium/German dealer.

I broke one on my last van similar style but only single height £160 in UK got one in France for under £100.

Being fed up seeing grey gaffa tape on my lovely Hymer I bit the bullet and bought a new lens from local motorhome dealer Becks for £232 and fitted it today.
It’s not just a lens but a complete lamp assy including fittings and bulbs so I suppose not hugely expensive

How about buying a roll of 3M clear outside tape from Aldi like I did it will cover things like that until the repair can be done, better than Gaffer..
Regarding the mirror I lost the little trim piece of a Spanish made Hymer mirror and was told it needed a complete unit for a thousand, so I made my own for a fiver.

The gaffa wasn’t too bad as the damaged top area of the lens has a grey coloured finish so it blended well but it has to look right .
Oddly enough the difference of three years since new is showing with the new light sparkling and the opposite side comparatively not so sparkling

That offended me about my headlight swap

The whole fitting came with new bulbs, including BiXenon headlight which Travel World kept ?

I didn’t realise till I had to buy a second unit ?

I still have my ex e bay headlight protectors in situ which fingers crossed are good insurance against a shattered headlight.

My experience of Brownhills (who appear to be the main suppliers of older Hymer spares) is that if they can source the part more cheaply than from Hymer they will do so. They did just that for me without being asked when I needed a rear light lens two years ago.

You need to buy another new one then to match the sparkly one. That way you will have two spares...........and get a softer brush. ::bigsmile:

You won’t be happy. You’ll know it’s not shining properly. You’ll lose sleep. Other Hymer owners will point and whisper. People will stop talking to you. (Not funsters, we’ll talk to anybody).
Go on, order it now. It’s either that or upgrade to an autotrail ?
