Chausson 640 welcome
Exp
Since October 2019
I’m on EHU , the mains is working (have some devices plugged in the 3 pin) but the fridge won’t work on the mains . Not a real issue as we have plenty of LPG . Any ideas ? Chausson 640 btw .

Low ampage hook up ?

It is a 5 amp ehu but pretty sure it was working , albeit on a different connection point, earlier in the week .

Are you out of the uk? Could be low voltage, fridge might not work but other items will. If you have multimeter check mains voltage, carefully! If below 210? Might be the issue.

Ok could be the issue . If it works back in Blighty then I know what the issue was

Most likely is low voltage as those fridges don't like it and often read on here and other forums about this issue. A common problem for a few when we used to go to Morocco.

Ref the comments on low amp supply, can't see that being a problem as I think the fridges don't really draw that much on EHU. 200- 250watts ish.

But that's just my 2p's worth (y)

Your at honfleur ... it will be low voltage,..... I bet there’s loads of french all connected with splitters...

If the mains voltage is low it will cut out on mains, had it happen to me

Thinking exactly the same, ours kept going back to gas there as well.

Low voltage perhaps. Not uncommon in some mature European sites where the cabling and connections are aging leading to voltage drop.

Had to get new 240 element after going to honfleur fridge kept going on off and then packed up

I doubt it was anything to do with Honfleur, too higher voltage will burn out an element you aren't going to get that there. If it was the case the rest of the vans electrics would probably blow before the fridge element.

Yes ours would cut out in Morocco when the voltage dropped too low (below 200 I think)

I have often wondered whether it is a problem with the actual fridge........many other fridges kept going on the lower voltage. Or whether it was an issue with the AES that just presumed there was no voltage and just tried to flick over to gas.
Of course in Morocco there is very little refillable and we wanted to conserve what we had, rather then run the fridge.
If it was just the AES it would be good to be able to overide that and keep the fridge running on the lower voltage......................presuming that it would work.

There is a known bug (well I know about it) on Dometic AES fridges. When the voltage is too low the fridge switches to gas but because it senses mains voltage the gas vale stays turned off so you here the ignitor clicking but there is no gas to light. The only thing you can do is switch to gas manually.

Our does flick over and works on gas but we don't want to use too much gas.I wonder whether there is a way to disable the AES as we always set the options by hand anyway.

That is presuming that the fridge would actually work on less than 240 volts, as many other fridges seem to do so.Its the AES that flicks over on a low voltage rather than when there is no voltage.

Are you on the level, sometimes fridges don’t work if you’re not.

You could install A UPS between the supply and the van

We bought a UPS in Morocco.
Strangely enough on the first night the fridge refused to work I google what to do and saw some pictures of a UPS a man appeared offering exactly the UPS I had looked at the night before.
It is heavy though and as I say other peoples fridges worked fine without one........I think its the AES that is the problem not the actual operation of the fridge

The EHU supply is simply running an heating element, that (in theory) should continue to work albeit less efficiently on virtually any voltage Up to 250V (or more) without burnout. So, that points the finger at the control system, I suspect AES is not "seeing" a sub 220V supply, and turning it over to gas, The fridge in ours has a Manual facility on the dial?, which potentially overrides the AES?. (Gas,EHU,12V,Auto and Off)

Unfortunately we can't change our fridge to gas manually. When our fridge kept trying to change to gas, we had to unhook from the electric so it would stay on gas.

Ours also has the manual facility which we tend to use most of the time. But if it's on AES it flicks to gas and if it's on manual it just goes off if there's a low voltage.
Maybe the fridge won't actually operate at a lower voltage.......but it's annoying when other fridges are operating quite normally.........well maybe at reduced efficiency.
But only in Morocco so far.......................... so maybe there are other things to worry about
