Hi I've just found out that my solar panels are producing 20volts at the batteries,it has fried my inverter, the controller is a Vechline lm series ,to be honest the manual is difficult to understand and does not address the issue of overcharging,am I doing anything wrong or is the controller faulty thanks Cliff

Sound like the regulator has got a fault.
Looking on Google seems to be a very cheap Pwm , best to get a good make Mppt one, Votronic or similar

I had that once with a Victron solar panel controller and it was replaced immediately by the supplier.

😳 The battery must be boiled dry. Check the connections to it, it may be disconnected and the voltage allowed to go up.

The van my mate bought privately had a solar panel .......and no controller at all.
20v straight into the battery and cooked it.
New battery and controller, sorted.

I agree it's probably a failed controller, but there is another possibility. Some solar controllers can charge 12V or 24V batteries. Many of them sense the battery voltage automatically when first connected. They need to be connected in the correct sequence. First connect the battery, then connect the panels. If the battery is disconnected, the sequence must be started again - disconnect the panels, then connect the battery, followed by the panels.
