Always learning.
Hi all help needed again,,just popped in to see the van in storage ( I had to be out for a medical appointment) and have noticed this white object near the flojet pump has the top sheared off,,firstly, anyone know what it is? And what does it do? Any help would be much loved.

It looks to be attached to the blue, cold water pipes and is probably some form of filter

do not turn your pump on, I suspect you will have a small flood 🤔😳

As its connected to the cold pipe it could be a very basic surge damper.
It absorbs the pulses from the water pump and make a smooth flow from the tap.
Get an inline pipe connector and remove it, its broken anyway.

Cant see that it is a filter as it appears to be feed in but no exist pipe. But cannot suggest an alternative, better men that me will be along soon to give you The answer.

Typical surge damper.
Two Chambers divided by a diaphragm.
Top chamber is air filled and pumped up to maybe 13psi and the bottom is full of water.
If there's a surge of water from the pump the water in the lower chamber pushs against the diaphragm to absorb the pressure surge.
Effective but not necessary.

This is the Fiamma version.
This is inline rather than the other which is spurred from the pipe. You can see the inflation valve at the top of picture.
£27.

Thanks Pappajohn, would these be basic push fit connectors and an easy fit for me or would a dealer need to get involved,,and daft question maybe, but could I just glue the top back on as it seems to be a clean split?

Yes, simple push fit..... You need a foot pump with pressure gauge to set the air pressure.
Glueing the old one won't work as its pressurised......possibly at factory if there's no shreider valve.

Could I buy a Whale surge damper? As I can’t find anything on line relating to Bessacarr model fitments? Thanks

Yes you can.
You won't find anything relating to Bessacar, the damper most likely isn't a factory fit item.
A previous owner probably fitted it.

That’s great thanks so much, would it be a normal 12mm push fit do you think?

It’s a surge damper as others have said.

Direct replacement should be this one. Just push in collet on coupling and slide off old one. Push new one in. Easy job.

What a helpful place this is. I had no idea what that was or it's function ...... all I could have said it was a whatsit thingy on a water dodah. Everyday I learn something new!

But looking at the photos it does look like push fit and loads of room so an easy replacement once you have the bits.

There are only two problems when it comes to repairs - you either don't have the bits or the bits don't fit.

No such things as stupid questions. If you need to ask it then you can be sure other people need to know as well.

it's not so much the capacity with a starter battery, more the cca figure for cold cranking amps. This is the energy available immediately to start the engine from cold. 95ah is the capacity at a set discharge rate. You can't fit a battery bigger than an 019 in the floor of most vans due to physical space

Plus a quality 95ah battery will outlast a cheaper 110ah. the 019 is fitted by the manufacturer, although I have seen allsorts fitted by owners and at dealerships. Dealers often take out the batteries on the forecourt for security and to charge, then when needed fit the first they pick up in storage at random. Have seen 5 year old batteries on vans under 2 years old because of this
