bought a Chausson welcome 76 2010 model in June .away for 2days and had to put it back in for repair they had it for 2weeks ,away again for 3days back in for more repairs ,a other 3 weeks for repairs they said all was good now away again after a short time back in for repairs they now had it in for 4 weeks and they say it will be at least 2-3 weeks yet for repairs ,the warranteny ends in 4 weeks time ,asked them if they could extend it due to the time it has been in for repair guest what they said no ,anyone know how I can go about this as it was not a cheap van

If you bought it from a dealer, take them a letter rejecting it and demanding your money back as it's not fit for purpose.

Said it's not on as they are repairing it
Sorry, that is not what Meanders said above.

Offhand comment to them are pointless, it needs doing officially
Write a letter telling them you are rejecting the van on the grounds it isn't fit for purpose and they have 7 days in which to respond.
Keep a correctly dated copy.
Send the letter 'signed for' delivery then you have proof it was sent and delivered.

Was ANY part of the purchase price paid by a credit card?

Hi pappajohn. Paid £19700 by debit card rest was against trade in £13500 knowning now I should have paid the deposit by credit card

what are they mending ? If serious structural / damp related it is serious

if it is delays getting components it is a different thing

although equally annoying for you I am sure

Hi.was smoking from exhaust so they are taking injectors out to get them tested

Van has only done 24000 and you can't see the back when going uphill or in low gear

personally I would be getting a main dealer full service at my cost with full report on what they find

if it turns out to be something silly all will be good, if serious you will have what you need to get sorted or reject

but do it before the warranty ends (y)

Hi davidg58 Thanks for your reply, it's in garage just they have 3 injectors out yesterday will give garage phone tomorrow for update on injectors

Is it by any chance Ford based as there is a welknown fact that they’ve had trouble with injectors and some Ford engines have melted pistons due to over fueling.

John.

Hi john ,,it's a fiat ducato 130 . Traded in a 2002 autotrail as the other half wanted a fixed bed. Wish I had kept it

are you paying for the work or the motorhome dealers?

best of luck with this, it must be worrying and annoying in equal measures

might also be worth a call to the previous owner, he may tell you what is wrong, or if he genuinely doesn't or didn't know when he sold it, that might give you more faith in the dealer (y)

Hi davidg58 , phoned the previous owner before I bought it and he said it was a great van that's why we got it Knowpark caravans are getting it done under warranty ,seems they don't want to know you after you have bought it ,won't be going back to them again

Ahh knowepark caravans

My sister had no end of trouble with them , had to go to court in the end bit still several thousands out of pocket.

Got rid of the van in the end as just no faith in it.

I'd speak to Trading Standards pronto to find out if they would be willing to get involved, also go to Citizens Advice for their view on it all, however I doubt you have any redress regarding being able to reject it as it's a used vehicle and things do, unfortunately, go wrong, at least it is being repaired ... it might put your mind at rest to get it checked over independently after it has been done to make sure everything is definitely in good working order before the warranty finally runs out.

Phoned garage and they said still trying to get the fourth injector out without breaking it Be taking it to a fiat dealer to get it checked out once I get it back

Consumer right act 2015 does include used vehicles and there may well be a case for rejecting it depending on age, mileage and general condtion. Judges take account of these in any preceding me but if the faults the OP is suffering with the vehicle emerged shortly after purchase or can be shown to have been present at that time they would have a good chance of winning a case. CAB and trading standards as you suggest if the first port of call followed by a solicitors advice. It’s difficult to comment further as the faults are not listed. Apart from the injectors

Hi , faults are 2 windows letting in water, helki rooflight not staying shut, Hab door not closing right ,leaking water tap,,heating not working , fridge not working on gas,,leaking toilet,,water leak from engine, blinds needing to be tension,,not all faults happened at once

We went to Knowepark to see a Hymer B544 advertised as good condition. It was abysmal, broken and missing cupboard handle, missing handle on main roof window. Large scratches down 1 side, damaged wheel arch trims.

We asked about trade in on new Hymer, that was 14 months ago still waiting, so glad we didn't buy there.

Don't rule out some protection from a debit card purchase - there is a system known as 'Chargeback' in respect of debit cards which works in much the same way. It worked for me when Speedferries went bust a few years ago. The banks don't promote it very much - cuts the number of claims, I suppose...;)

Some information here.

They go through your trade in with a fine toothcome so they can drop the trade in price in any small faults,my trade in they sold it on for £8495 profit and they don't sort any of the faults as after being sold they just claim on the warranty if I knew then what I know now

With your list of extra faults I would suspect you could get a genuine 'not fit' claim going, on the engine alone you might have had difficulty, but with this lot ... give it a go.

Heard from garage , snapped a bolt going to try and drill it out If not head has to come off and they said it will take 2-3 weeks ,,,what a nightmare

Update..had injectors tested all ok ..test run still smoking ,so they are taking injectors out of a other motorhome and going to see if they work ,,what a nightmare

Have you had any advice regarding rejecting it?

Been to c a and they said I have a good claim but won't get back what I paid for it

I think I would be testing all the van with a damp meter. It could be sodden if you don’t know how long it’s been leaking for., and it sounds like a lot of leaks.
It might help add to your rejection case.

Sorry your having such a nightmare!
