Hoping for a little advice. We are planning a skiing trip for February half term and plan on staying on aires in either Les Deux Alpes or Montgenevre. We are hoping to be able to use EHU where available, but if not, we we will be using a Yamaha Inverter Pro generator. What is the etiquette regarding usage and run times?

Any time before 10 at night seems the norm.
Some will run them longer, it depends if their batteries are any good.
Ski Aires are more tolerant than rally fields, the survival spirit tends to prevail.

Gennies still annoy us though!!!!!

Montgeneve is a fine choice. .

As for Genny use? go for it you won't be alone when going with the kids we used to use it from 5 -10pm and then 8-10 am and we were conservative compared to others

Thanks for that! Hopefully we won't need it if we can get EHU. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
We are new to Aire hopping, particularly in snowy climates

Hi Steve

When we spent a season based in Alpe d'Huez (where there is no hookup and there area lot of French Regulars) we noticed a sort of happy hour for gennies - early evening and again in the breakfast time period. However in Monty it was more free and easy but as there are a lot of hook-ups in Monty the usage overall was less.

Bear Alpe d'Huez in mind for your trip too - but as mentioned on messenger it gets very full at half term. One year at Feb Half Term the Gendarmes allowed us to stay in another car park but I'm fairly certain they wouldn't do that now

In my mind, the use that is being made of the generator's supply determines how acceptable the noise is...

Making electricity to warm your breakfast croissants, or to cook your Fray Bentos "Just Steak" pie in your mini oven, given the absence of a gas oven in a Classic Hymer, is obviously perfectly reasonable. (y)

Making electricity so you can watch some dreadful "reality television show" or mind numbing soap, or to work an iron/hoover/bread maker/poxy coffee machine etc, is definitely not. ;)

Just saying

That's a fact...nice and quiet just chargin batteries...
Switch a kettle on... that's a different matter..
But in the conditions and temperature been described I don't think I'd be to worried during daylight hours :)

Never skied in my life... feel I've missed out on a lot of fun there..
Andy.

I was forced to try once... lasted 1 (one) metre.

If tying thin planks onto your feet and sliding down mountains covered in cold, damp snow risking life and limb is the "fun I have missed" then I really, really, really don't mind. ;)

Strange innit !

On a lumpy bumpy cowshit laden rally field generators are definately frowned upon but its perfectly acceptable on a snow covered aire in the beautiful vista of the alps.

That's because a far nicer class of people go skiing :imoutahere:

Generator use seems to be well covered in answers.
Remember though take two 1 gallon canisters so you can get fuel for the gene.
Carrying a 5 gallon jerry can from the garage back to the aire isnt fun.
Two 1 gallons are far easier
