Gearbox

Hi
I have a 2002 fiat ducato, the gearbox is grinding from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3nd ,I know the box is a MG5T and I know parts are hard to come by so I probably would be better with a new gearbox, does anyone know what years of gearboxes I can use ,i can get my hands on a 2007 box but don't know if will work on my 2002 van ? TIA

Sounds like synchro rings are worn but are you sure the clutch is clearing.
No idea what 'box will fit.

Thanks , got a new clutch under a year ago , had problems with 5th and got it fixed

I think the main problem with the box is 5th gear failing due to no proper oil splash.
Other the the 5th gear they are quite reliable.

Breakers yard for the same possibly?

I certainly no gearbox expert but overhaul of your existing gearbox would seem like the best course of action to me.
Look for a local specialist to rebuild it.
I doubt you could fit one from a much later model without major modification ?

at a guess your van is a 244 and if the 2007 is a 244 model then it is likely to fit but 2007 was when the change was made to x250 so my not be suitable.

In the meantime, add some Molyslip to your gearbox, it sorted out my crunchy first gear ?
