First time using the Tunnel with our motorhome and would like information regarding our two Gaslow bottles.
I have read that the quantity in each bottle is checked before loading and without a gauge I could be refused. Is this true? If so can I buy a simple clip on gauge as my kit does not have one?
Otherwise it’s back to the high seas!! Thankyou

Having used the tunnel a number of times they simply check that the gas is turned OFF.

Absolutely not true!
We have Gaslow and go through the tunnel 10 times a year.
They will want you to open the locker so that they can check that the taps are turned off. Sometimes they just ask you to confirm that the gas is off.
Nothing more than that.
The tunnel is so quick and easy you will wonder why you haven't used it before. (y):D

So long as your vehicle is not propelled by LPG, then as others have said its just a question of turning your bottles off at the check point.

They only check or ask if you have turned them off. We have a PVC with a scooter on the back and no access to the gas cylinders but they are happy if you show them the internal valves are switched off.

Last time we used the Tunnel (September), the girl checking the cylinders was training a new employee.

On explaining that I had said the cylinders were turned off she announced to her colleague that they must still check.

She then ceremoniously checked the valve on the non-connected cylinder, stating her satisfaction that all was OK.:Eeek:

We had a check last time over. The lady asked me to try lighting the gas hob and was satisfied when it didn’t light. I didn’t tell her the 12volt was turned off and therefore no ignition. She told me that she had just been trained and this was what she had been told to do.

Used the tunnel loads of times, sometimes they ask to look if the bottles are turned off and others they have taken my word. The time before last the young lad asked if the bottles were turned off to which I said yes but if he would like to check, the locker wasn't locked. Cheeky little bu--er said it isn't my problem, if they blow up your the one in the tunnel with them.
I have to say he had a good point
