Use proper leak spray….

If you do use washing up liquid make sure you wash it all off….it contains lots of salt and it’s quite corrosive to bare ferrous metals.

or better still use an electronic gas detector….they’re not as expensive as you might think

Get a sniffer, and leave it in the van for “can you smell something“ moments in the future.

My electronic one with long narrow sensor for getting into small spaces, detected small gas leak that soapy water and aerosol did not.

I can assure you that washing up liquid is actually highly corrosive, also not easy to rinse away properly.
We can spot from a mile away the gas installations that have had washing up liquid used on them , it corrodes all the fittings, the brass valves and the steel cylinders, also if the van has a metal gas locker then look out .
Carthago gas lockers are the worst as they are Aluminium and not earthed so they actually cause galvanic corrosion especially when washing up liquid and Road salt etc is added .
