Garmin 770 Lmt-d Camper Sat Nav no ACSI Data

Do the updates now, if it doesn't work, at least you can take it back to Halfords and demand money back. Better now than in 6 months!

Hi
As you can probably guess, updated software via Garmin Express and all ACSI, MHF data etc has disappeared as i predicted. Went on to update maps to see if this would resolve matters, and it is now telling me that there is not enough memory for the map update, so I need to obtain a micro SD card to provide enough memory to enable the update. S this will have to wait until tomorrow when i buy a card.
Have you done a recent update on your software, and if so, do you still have the ACSI data available?

It's unbelievable that in these days of cheap memory Garmin sell kit that doesn't have enough memory built in to do the job it's sold for.
Once you pay for an expensive sat-nav you are then expected to buy a memory card to overcome their deficiencies.
As far as I remember its been happening for years.
I think that everyone who buys one should take it back and demand a refund so that they end up with an enormous stock of used kit. They might start to upgrade the memory to something sensible when they get a big hit on their profits.

Whinge over! I feel better now!

Richard.
PS. I rather like my Garmin even though I have had to fit a memory card but don't tell them.

We have one, been a life saver for us finding local places to put up for the night at short notice

I believe you can back them up before updating, which should be a fail safe way of ensuring a restore if things go wrong

It I bloody ludicrous that you have to stump up for extra memory, given it costs pennies to add during production.

BTW, I exaggerate our weight, height and width on the settings to ensure that it responds appropriately. My understanding is that up to 3.5 T it treats you like a normal car.

Thanks for your comments. The restore option only restores places, waypoints etc. that you have added. It unfortunately does not restore the operating system and software.
Regarding the vehicle dimensions, I have taken the same action as yourself and exaggerated the vehicle dimensions. I did this on my old 760 and basically described the motorhome as if it was a tank. Sadly, it would still try and take me down many of the narrow lanes around here. When I get the new one up and running, I hope it will be an improvement in this respect. I don't think the 760 had an option to input the weight, so exaggerating the weight may be the answer.

All very strange to me! I have updated twice now and the memory bar shows around 30% full. Thanks for the tip, I'm going to add 10% to the height and width dimensions!
Good luck with sorting it out.

Hi
Can I just ask if you have updated your 770 recently, and if you have checked if you still have the ACSI data?

Updated 2 weeks ago. Definitely got the ACSI, when travelling along the ACSI campsites were showing on screen as we passed them.

Thank you for that. It is probably under two weeks since I updated my first 770, but maybe there is something else in the firmware of the latest 770 that is causing this anomaly, and they have not yet sorted it.

I have just bought one of these, arrives tomorrow. Looking at the online manual and U-tube reviews and it looks impressive to say the least.

Out of the box, it is a very nice unit. The screen is almost completely corner to corner, like a small widescreen TV! The display is also very bright and clear. It has WiFi built in to the unit as well, so it can be updated without plugging into a computer. The traffic module is also built into the unit and is not a separate unit, with ariel, that has to be plugged in to the Sat Nav unit, which was the case with my old 760 unit. This is all very positive. I am just really frustrated that the software seems to have this glitch, that they do not seem to have any answer to at present.
As mentioned previously, when entering the dimensions of your unit, exaggerate everything and put the weight over 3.5T. Unless you do this it will still take you down routes as if you are a car. The old 760 was forever sending me down lanes that could not accommodate a motorhome, unless you are very patient and a great fan of reversing.

That does not make for good reading. Hopefully this is not the case on latest model and I shall enter the correct dimensions and see. I have a reversing camera (and the wife) so we shall find out.

The 770 will be better I think. I don't think the 760 asked you to input the weight of the vehicle so I think if you input your weight as over 3.5t(which yours may be anyway) it doesn't include the smaller lanes. Anyway, it is like any sat nav really, so if it is telling you to turn into a road that does not look suitable, keep going and eventually it will take you on a better road. It may not be the shortest route, but it will be less stressful.

Don't have our Camper 760 to hand but I'm pretty sure weight is a user variable on it. According to Garmin website the following are - Specialised Camper routing supports Camper-related restrictions in Europe (customisable by height, weight, length, width).
Seem to also remember that it kept telling me I was exceeding speed limit when I grossly over-egged the weight of ours (>7500kg?).

Hi I am considering buying one of these units did you get your problems sorted.

I've just bought one, got a good deal from Halfords with a discount code off the net. Updated at home on wifi and ACSI and others appeared on the home screen:)

Thanks were did you get the discount code.
Just searched for discount codes for halford.
Got 10% off, but Halfords had just dropped the price online. Ended up paying £295, which is a lot if it comes up for sale at Aldi for £150...
But I need it NOW!!! ;)

Hi
No, sadly gave up and returned the 770. Gone back to my ugly, clumpy looking old 760 with the separate attachment for Live Traffic. Hiwever, It does what it says on the tin and doesn't lose the ACSI and MHF data when I update. I will buy another 770 in a while to see if they have managed to resolve the glitch. If they haven't it will go back like the other two.
Only annoying thing was that I got mine for £295 so I will wait till the offer comes up again or the price drops.

Just used the discount code that ended on the 10/8/17, ordered using click and collect and got it for

Hi
Once again I am hoping to tap into the wealth of knowledge available here.
I have just changed from my Garmin 760 to the new 770 Camper edition.
Generally a very positive move. The screen resolution is much more vivid, the unit is much slimmer with a bigger visible screen and the traffic data receiver is built into the unit, not plugged in separately.
The downside for me is that the old 760 had ACSI and MHF data pre installed on the unit. The 770 does not. This is very useful when in Europe. There are icons for both that automatically appear on screen. When it is late in the day and you are looking for a site this is extremely useful. With the ACSI sites there were photos and loads of info available once you clicked on the icon. Extremely useful.
I realise that I can get all this on my phone, but having it integrated into the sat nav is extremely useful. Without it, I think I will return it as it should not be marketed as a 'Camper' specific sat nav, which is inferior in some ways to the old model.
I have rung their technical help line. I was given advice which I thought may sort it out. However this was just a downloadable application which enables individual POI's to be downloaded.
Basically has anyone else had this problem and found a way to get the ACSI and MHF data on the 770?

Our 770 came with ACSI already in there. We bought it in March 2017 it was the brand spanking new edition and we had to wait for it to come out here..... we first made enquiries in January when we dicovered this new edition was imminent....it came about 2 days before we left for our spring trip to France and Spain. It's fab...... We love it!!!

That was what was so frustrating. Both the ones I had came with ACSI installed. When I did the update on both, the ACSI and MHF data disappeared. Garmin technical had no idea how to resolve this. I am hoping that this will be resolved via an update. As I said, I will be getting another one and returning it if the same thing happens again.

We've done a couple of updates but not in the past month......not had any trouble....yet!!!

I am ow the owner of a brand new Garmin 770 Camper Sat Nav and have done a couple of trips with it and I'm very very impressed. Takes a little while to get used to it as there is so many options and so much information available. It's very, very quick and the voice recognition is first class and works flawlessly. I update via Garmin Express and this is quick and fault free.

I have a 660 and the traffic does not work as I had to purchase a long USB lead for it so I can use it in the van, the one that came with it was too short. Anyone else got issues with the Live Traffic not working as says invalid power lead (or something to that effect)?

Would a mini USB extension lead connected to the original lead maybe work?

original lead is a cigarette lighter I am using a usb lead.
using Sat nav and dash came to usb cig extension and 2 usb into another converter I to second cig slot.

The traffic info receiver is built into the cigar lighter plug of the 660. Any extension would need to be added to the mini USB lead that is part of the original lead.
