Sorry if this has been covered before.

I replaced the GU10 Halogen reading light bulbs last year with LED's and really pleased with the low power saving. Result.

The other 7 down lighters are the G4 capless halogen type which I am looking to replace when I can find a suitable warm white LED replacement. I'm sure some of you tech types have done this. Which one did you go for? I'm looking to keep the brightness level about the same as the halogen as they are general lighting types. Some of the offerings on Ebay look a little on the large side so not sure they would fit. The MH is a 2010 Bessacarr. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the recommendation. (y)Aten supply 12 different types of side pin G4's:unsure: (if that's what you bought) and 7 different tower variants:unsure::unsure:. Please can I ask to be more specific which one closely resembles the original halagen in terms of colour and brightness?

Loads of permutations!!
If possible I would contract them direct for best advice as to what would suit you.

If you get these in cool white theyā€™re bright.
Depending on you light unit they would replace this type of bulb

Since the 80s
which one closely resembles the original halagen in terms of colour and brightness?
In terms of colour the warm white looks about the same as the halogen. In terms of brightness, a 1 watt LED is about the same as a 10 watt halogen. I fitted 2 watt LEDs, which are quite a lot brighter but still save a lot of power.

In some fittings the halogen bulb pushes in vertically, and in others the bulb pushes in sideways. So to have the light shine outwards you have to choose whether the pins are vertical or sideways relative to the LED circuit board..

The type I have use the halogen ones that plug in sideways as Manic has posted above so either the circuit board (not so keen on these) types would fit or the tower ones may fit. I think I would prefer the tower type TBH, that's why I was asking for specific recommendations. So many combinations to choose from.:( I don't want to end up with floodlights:cool:

Any 12v G4 Halogen bulbs I replaced on the Hymer, were done with the round PCB type LED, with either vertical or lateral pins, pending the light fitting. I usually went for warm white, or bright white in the lounge/cab area.
More recently with the Flair, I have fitted the tiny silicone pod style bulbs, again, pending the pin requirement on the light fitting.
The advantage of the round PCB type bulbs, is that all of the light is directed downward, whereas, with the silicone pod style bulbs, 50% of the bulb's lumens are thrown upwardly into the light fitting. šŸ˜•

Cheers,

Jock. šŸ™‚

This is what I got as I didnā€™t want brighter than it was. Many on there are brighter than a standard. We also went warm white, it was hard to tell which you had swapped and those hadnā€™t

See my earlier post please.

Cheer,

Hi Jock, I did see your post and you confirmed the small pod types will fit. As the original Halogen lost the same amount of light upwards would think the output much the same. Just seeing if anyone used the Amazon offering as quite a bit cheaper but unknown longevity. Thanks. Dennis

I am leaning towards the 6 LED G4 as Landy Andy has used. Just saw these on amazon, anyone used these? Of course there are 6 in a pack and I need 7:rolleyes:

Amazon product ASIN B087MY46RW
All I will say is that I fitted one cheap LED and when operated, my tv stopped receiving signal, which then returned when light off. Fitted ATen ones and no tv or any other problems.

If you have not come across Farnell before I recommend a look at their website, most amazing catalogue, not just bulbs but almost everything else that a practical person (or horder) would want.
They also have very reasonable minimum order requirements and in my experience excellent customer service including pretty well always next day delivery.
Have used Farnell in the past and have been satisfied with their service. Just checked on likely leds there and minimum order surcharge for 7 leds doubles the cost. Need to spend >Ā£40.00

I decided to use the tower version as I prefer the look to the card type. I went for the Amazon offering in the end and very pleased with the result. Very close to original halogen. Time will tell if they last though.

I got very similar for our awning light and it's lasted very well, 2w with built in regulator. Several times I've left it on all night by mistake and it's about 3 years old now. Uses that little power I put it on when we go out too.

Only difference is where yours has got 7 chips inside, ours has just got 1 big one.
