Hi all,

More dumb questions about stuff not working!!

This time its my Dometic RM7605l fridge that's having an issue on gas......

It lights up fine and whilst the starter thing clicks away the flame is cool (I have fitted a new burner as well) but after the starter stops clicking the flame goes out.

in the video if it uploads there is a centre wire attached to a u shaped piece of metal that sits in the flame and the wire goes into the control box.

would i be right in saying that this thing tells the system that there is a flame?

could this be the culprit? I had ordered a new wiring loom but they have been discontinued.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Many thanks

Yes that's the thermocouple, and is responsible for telling the gas valve to stay open.

Thermocouple probably needs cleaning or putting nearer to the flame.

So file the hell out of it and bend into fire?

Hi those wires probably go to a black box, they should just push in. Suggest cleaning the ends of those wire connections and removing the black box bit and cleaning the multi connector pins on that.

Check the white multi pin plug connections as on my previous motorhome I had the same issue and turned out to be poor connections. As you can see the before and after pictures of the pins, the you need to make sure the they are nice and tight so remove each pin and check and if necessary bend the little piece of metal to make it more of a tighter fit to the pins.

Ahh, do they come out of the plastic doofer? I'll try that. Thanks

If you have one of those long gas lighters ,you could always check your burner with that, start the fridge up and light the gas jet with your lighter and keep it lit with the lighter untill it kicks in.thayvwill give you some idea if it's the thermocouple. (y)

I put a post on in the past and pictures regarding this multiplug. It is known to make a poor connection over time. A simple fix, in many cases, is to fit a small wedge beside the connector to make sure it is a tight fit. This sorted out my fridge big time. This advice was from a Dometic Engineer and he carried and fitted the wedge every time he carried out a fix of this type of fridge. I hope this assists. Please refer to my previous post with pictures

I read your post but for some reason didn't think it was the connections on the plug end!!

Apologies, I had a few issues with my previous fridge. I have checked back through my posts and I have previously mentioned the wedge for this fix but I have since deleted photos. I have the contact details for the engineer if you want to use him. He was excellent

PS depending on where you live of course

My understanding is that it is an electrical connection at the end so you have to treat it with respect, the closed end should cover the connection if not it might be burned out.

Im having a blonde moment. What do you mean by the closed end? the bit that the wire connects to?

The end that goes into the flame has two wires inside so if the end is damaged it doesn’t work.

sorry martin but thats not a thermocuple modern apliance work on flame rectification.belive it or not a flame will conduct current so there is a current on the pin which then passes through the flame when it lights and tells the electronics its lit theres actually more to as there also a swop from ac to dc involved hence rectification
most of the problems with this system are as explained above bad connections including earths
you can diferentiate the two system thermocouples are brass and dont need an insulator at the burner

Always happy to be corrected.

So I have cleaned the contacts etc and have tested the cable and am getting continuity. Still no joy.......

I have ordered a new wiring loom so that may help. I cant for the life of me though find the U shaped piece of metal that sits in the flame anywhere to buy. Anyone have an idea where they can be sourced or actually what its name is?

Its possible that the grey box of tricks is playing up I suppose...

Taff015 I think the sensor may be called a ionisation electrode also if you have not already, check the earth connections at the burner are ok.
What earth connection?? Where would that be? Its not something I had even considered tbh!!

I think that the black wire that is at the burner going back to the ignition control box is the ground connection , www. leisureshopdirect.com may have parts.

I did order the wires from them but it has been discontinued by Dometic so they refunded my cash. I have ordered the wires from another supplier. Hopefully they will arrive

Taff015 I do not know if you have seen it but there is some information/manuals that you can download for the Dometic 7series fridge that may be useful on page 3 in the Manuals for Motorhome stuff section in the Resources section on the top line of this page.

Thank you. I dint know that existed. Really appreciated

Right i went for the nuclear option and bought a new wiring loom thing. Getting the wire upto the control panel at the front of the fridge inside the van required some thought and a lot of swearing!!!!

Still the same unfortunately!. My only other options now are change the grey sparky box thing that the wiring loom plugs into or change the gas doofer (who's name I have no idea of!)

Decisions, decisions!!
