I occasionaly mix up a pint of water with half a dozen Milton tablets then add that to tank. Probably does nothing but makes me feel happier.

worth a read on Milton in water tanks

Watch out for MILTON and similar. My understanding is that the water heater tanks are aluminium, and do not take kindly to such product!. The safe cleaning product is White Vinegar. and descales as well.

should mention we have a water filter in line to take out most nasties and bad tastes

Every now and again I add a purifier, but we never drink the tank water.

Once a year, usually after the motorhome has been standing still for a while, I will give it a clean out with Milton. We tend to drink water from the 5-8 lts bottles and use the water in the tank for tea, coffee and washing etc.

Perhaps I need to rethink the Milton due to possible water heater corrosion. Old van gone now but maybe can avoid any damage to new van.

No. But I don't drink the tank water (unless it's boiled).

In the UK. All ( mains) water has levels of chlorine sufficient to make it "Potable". ie; fit to drink.? I have drunk tank water for donkeys years, Prefer Beer (y) , But Needs must!. The only concession is to descale the heater annually with water mixed with white vinegar from the tank and then flush. When filling I run a few litres water through the hose before putting it in the tank. As kids, our water was from a pumped well in the garden, before Gran got the mains in, the well water tasted better!.

As our MH is not used for four months during the winter, we empty the tank & when refilling use Puri Sol to clean & kill any bacteria fill & leave 2-12 hours. Empty rinse & fill again.
No problems so far & we use water to drink both cold & for tea coffee etc.
If the water tastes or smells bad try using Aqua Sol added to tank (not used this as yet)

Another vote for Elsil here occasional use

I often wonder, It it JUST us "old timers" that seem to have no (or little ) effects from drinking what some regard as "dodgy" water?. Is it the same outlook that puts millions of tons of good food into waste because the "use by" date is a few days out?. As I said in an earlier post, as kids we drank well water at Grans?, absolutely NO ill effects.?

Another hand up for a shot of Elsil .. although we always dump any leftover fresh water between trips. As we tend to turn over a tank every 3-4 days when we're away, it stays reasonably fresh. And it only goes in the kettle, dunny or toothbrush.

Hi, 3Ms HF10 filter plus relevant housing with push fit pipe connections.

see this thread for some additional info:-

Dump and refill as required every trip, treat once a year with puriclean.
