Are we doing something wrong?
Cannot connect firestick to wifi again. Have tons of data on three phones none will connect it seems wifi isnt strong enough. Do we need a mifi ? pairing via phone never seems to work for us. Currently at Braithwaite in Keswick .

Have you got your personal hotspot switched on/set up on your phone?

With one of your phones’ hotspots turned on they’ll have a strong enough Wi-Fi signal for a Firestick, etc.
Have you got a decent 4G/5G signal on the phones?

put your phone onto hotspot setting, then tell the firestick to search for connections, if it finds them and wont connect then it seems more likely to be 'user error' - you might be entering the wrong password?

is the firestick stuck on the logo screen or do you get as far as the menu?

its always a good idea to try everything out at home if you can

be patient, i am sure youre more then competent to sort it out

It depends on which network you're using. See the list below for details.

The mifi unit is usually used with a roof aerial which gives you a much stronger signal inside the mh.
Using a regular smartphone inside is usually OK when paired to the firestick but in poor signal areas you need an external aerial.
Shouldn't be a problem pairing your phone with the firestick. Just go to settings on the firestick then network and select your phone, enter the password and away you go.

Go to the screen where the available WiFi connections are displayed in the Firestick menu on the TV and then turn your phone hot spot off and then on again after a few seconds, you may need to do it a couple of times before it says saved and then connected.

Don't put your mobile phone in a carrier bag and put it on the roof as an "roof aeriel". You might forget before you drive off.

As has been mentioned, it may be down to the supplier. Vodafone and O2 have poor coverage where you are which may explain it if you are using one of these.

If firestick USB is plugged into the TV try it in another USB socket with an extension lead if neccessary.
TV USB may not be providing the extra power needed to complete WiFi connection, which is of course part of the setup procedure

Is the firestick actually connecting to your phones, if not it’s nothing to do with the carrier or phone signal as you should be able to connect to phone whether you have signal or not.
We sometimes restart the firestick or turn WiFi off and on if it can’t find our phone.

AFAIK it's nothing to do with the WiFi strength. If your phone has a signal and you can browse the web or watch YouTube with no buffering then it's a connection problem. Does your phone have a hotspot?, is it password protected by one you set for it? and if so is it switched on?, if so the firestick will find it automatically in the settings menu, enter the hotspot password you set for our phone when requested on the TV screen and it should connect.

As pappajohn says, it may be the Firestick isn’t getting enough power from the tv usb socket…..

I have no bother in Spain just using my phone,,BUSBY.

Are you powering your mifi via a mini USB connector? If not, try doing that.

It can sometimes take about 5 mins for Firestick to connect to mifi - maybe just try giving it a bit longer

We have one bar on the phone of 4g. It says not in range on the menu under the device we are trying to use.

On my iPhone I have to shut it down and restart it very often before the fire stick recognises the phone

Almost certain its connection poor signal. We are going to have a wifi aerial fitted. Any recommendations they seem to vary massively in price i wont be fitting myself. I usually go to rhino installs near Preston.

Recommend this company, they franchise out the fitting sorting installs will probably fit their products.
We've had two of the 5g ready units, good kit at a reasonable price.

Agreed, we have their hard wired WiFi kit also professionally fited. However our phones have superceded it for several years and we only use it as a backup with a 3 Internet With Legs data card but haven't used it for yonks.

Sounds like the phone hotspot is not on. If it's an android phone draw the top menu down and tap Hotspot to turn it on, then look for it on the firestick. If you haven't set up the hotspot then look it up on YouTube for your phone model.

you dont need a permanantly installed mifi, look at the netgear nighthawk m2 - plenty of other posts on here with info about them and similar mifi, no need for external aerial either !

I think there’s a more basic problem here that adding a WiFi aerial too isn’t going to address.
On your phone(s) can you surf the web?
If you can’t surf maybe you’re in a mobile blackspot.
If yes, Is a phone’s personal hotspot enabled? Do you know the hotspot name & password?
On the Firestick, are you in the network setup area where you can select nearby wifi networks?
Is the hotspot name listed? Select it & add the password where asked.
