Hello! Here's a bit of a strange question. We're parked up for the winter on a friend's land where the access is difficult, so we can't really move our motorhome easily to fill up our two 11kg gaslow bottles at the petrol station.

Is it possible to take our gaslow tanks (in another vehicle) to be filled at the petrol station?

Or, could we hook up a separate large gas bottle to serve our van for the next couple of months or so?

Any ideas welcome! We need the gas for the heating only (cooking elsewhere).

Thank you!! šŸ¤—

If the garage allows you to fill a stand alone bottle you can.
Many places don't allow it.
You may also need a fill adaptor for the bottles......but not sure.

You will need an adaptor to refill a gaslow that's not connected to your MHome system and some garages may not let you fill a loose bottle, refillable or not. But you can buy an adaptor hose that allows you to connect say a larger calor bottle to your fill point. Appreciate its a bit more expensive but will save moving your van ,hoses are approx Ā£20.

This is the answer your looking for and will save you the hassle of taking out the bottles every time you want to fill plus the expense of going to a garageā€¦ itā€™ll be a lot easier just getting a calor bottle and fitting it using the hose aboveā€¦šŸ˜Ž

Thank you šŸ‘ Sounds like a plan!

Any idea where I look to buy calor gas?! Facebook marketplace seems to have a few empty bottles. What sort of size is considered big?

You have to be able to move it around and carry it to the car etc to exchange it so most probably an 11kg bottle. Anything bigger and you need to have it delivered ideally.. unless you have a couple of people to lift anything bigger.

Thank you very much! We have a few people to help carry and our second vehicle is a Transit van, so I'm thinking we may be able to go bigger. Will research. Thanks for the link!

I have a 15kg bottle I use in our mobile gas heater (which is getting a lot of use at the moment!). Have no trouble moving it around and there are loads of places to get refills although Calor is a bit of a ripoff. May be possible to have larger bottles delivered? Just check what bottle fits the adapter hose, my heater has a different connection to the Gaslow pipe.

someone like flo gas, probably cheaper than calor. They may well deliver one of the larger bottles to you. It used to be the larger the bottle the cheaper the gas?

Hoses are 1.5 metres so make sure your bottle isn't too tall.

Thank you so much, this did the trick! Managed to refill our Gaslows at Texaco from the back of our Transit (even though it says it's not permitted to fill bottles). šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘
