My Fiat Ducato off-side rear view mirror has developed a habit of folding backwards when I am driving in a strong wind. Most disconcerting because I cannot reach out far enough to adjust it immediately and need to pull over.

Has anybody got a tip for adjusting it, I have had a look expecting to find a nut for tension adjustment but no luck. Am I missing something?

Enquiries revealed when I had the same problem; no.
I was on the point of creating some method of resistance when we sold the van.
I had hoped that there could be some way of tightening the unit inside the case which looks as if it can be taken apart, but was advised this would not work. I think there may be a Youtube on this topic.

A long time now
If your Fiat Ducato was an older one like mine was( 2006) the rubber bellows on the arms push back and lo and behold a top and bottom nut to tighten up a nip and problem sorted .

If look at this thread you will see a description of how I partially dismantled the wing mirror on my 2013 van. There is no adjustment and you can't readily dismantle it further was my conclusion.

If you decide to take it apart, use a hairdryer to blow warm air behind the main mirror to soften the tags which hold it in place. This should reduce the risk of breaking them.

On my fiat 250 I had a problem that mirror would partly fold in at motorway speeds. Looked but couldn’t find easy adjustment.

My solution was to cut a knackered bicycle in half (length) and take a section of this. Wrap around pivot point, top, and bottom, then pull and pull, in my case till rubber snapped. Then cut off exposing bits. This has worked very well for me.

Thanks to all for the helpful hints. I will have a closer look at the first opportunity and see what I can do now armed with these suggestions.

Thanks for your reply Landy Andy- I am not sure which end of the bicycle I should use- but I think I know what you meant

many many years! since I was a kid
I would try some really tough thread and pull it tight into the pivot points to increase the turn resistance

If you can access the joint where it pivots gently prise it apart and squirt superglue in the joint.
It will still fold if struck but won't fold in wind.

Sorry. Missed a bit in my post.

A section of bicycle INNER TUBE. That’s what I meant to put. Cut a section about a foot long, and half the width of the inner tube. Round the pivot and back then pulled tight and it disappears into the gap. I did both the top and bottom pivots. Enough friction so it doesn’t move whilst driving, but can still be moved in by hand.

Hope that makes more sense.

This deffo should help a lot as in my case I just used a small 1" section of an old plastic sign which was wedged In the same area and worked okish, so rubber is bound to work better :)
