The guestimate I heard by a lorry driver was that about 80% would be heading to Belgium and all points East and South East and the other 20% heading France and Spain.
I suspect a lot of pressure put on Macron by those other EU countries.

The other EU countries have also stopped people traveling from the UK as have many non EU countries

Or perhaps it was done to reduce the amount of Covid getting into their own country?

Isn't that what most people have been advocating on here for months: close the borders and keep the virus out?
Only allow in people who could prove that they were covid-free?

Or is it something that only "we" should be allowed to do?

Instead of developing a vaccine for Covid they would be better developing one for Stupidity. Without stupidity this Virus would have died out months ago..BUSBY.

If you expect companies like Puke n' Orrible to be up-front with helpful information for customers, let alone competitive, then it's going to be a bit of an steep learning curve.
I am still unable to book a crossing within my P&O cutomer acount which was corrupted 3 years ago and which they have yet to delete or unblock. They make no attempt to be competitive and are probably wondering why droves of motorists have deserted them to the Tunnel.
As for the poor old lorry drivers, why didn't the govt start testing them 3 days ago when Macron first announced that whatever the outcome of the 48 hour closure, a Covid test pass would be required? And as for Nightingale Wards, don't get me started!
Happy Christmas to one and all! CB.

That decision needed common sense which somehow lacking in our University Educated ruling classes. Heard a transport expert state yesterday that it would be far to difficult to identify trucks entering the UK with time sensitive fresh food on board.to give them priority.Bit of a clue on most of them is the fridge motor/compressor
on the front and in the majority of cases the Spanish no plate. BUSBY.

i fail to see how you come to that conclusion,in my experience the ferry is usually cheaper than the tunnel disregarding frequent travellers which don't work for every one

Nothing to do with Covid and more to do with our exit from EU,,(didn't use the B word)Macron throwing his toys out of the pram.Think P and O and DVDS should load their ferries with trucks and cross the channel..May not be allowed to land but in harbour they will be the French responsibility. BUSBY.

I'm fairly confident that the carrier is responsible for the ability of their passengers to be able to land. IF they take someone denied access to a foreign country then they are responsible for returning them to the port of departure.

Do you think that they will be happy to shuttle lorries backwards and forwards for no extra remuneration?

It is each individual's own responsibility to ensure that HE/SHE/IT is allowed to travel to/from where they want to, it is NOT the responsibility of the transport company ... if anyone is daft enough to make a booking without knowing if they will be allowed into the country they are going to upon arrival they are total numpties. There appears that there WILL be travel to France tomorrow so I can't why they shouldn't allow bookings to be made.

Except ALL transport is exempt & has been fro the start. All these countries banning UK travellers are still all allowing complete unfettered access for transport. Even countries where paperwork is required for travel rarely enquire whether transporters have any. My neighbour has been back & forwards to France, Belguium, Holland, Germany, Denmark the last few weeks without anything other than the truck ,except when flying.
the majority of cases the Spanish no plate. BUSBY.
not really these days. The Large company up the road runs 500 trucks a week to & from the UK & all are on portugese plates. Most spanish trailers these days are pulled by east european tractor units.

They take them over & anchor in the port. Send the gunboats that they were proposing to use for the fishing patrols to enforce it.

I think even Grayling would have understood that sending gunboats into a foreign port to enforce UK concepts would not be the best idea. :giggle:

Gordon
I was thinking to ensure they entered . As far as I'm concerned if it goes to no deal it should be fire at will in any fishing dispute/caught escorting dinghys.

They are accepting bookings but don't you think they should have added that you can only land in France if you have had a Covid Test.BUSBY.
