Looking at mounting a fan at the rear of the fridge to improve cooling in hot weather. Was looking a simple computer cooling fans - 12cm X 12cm X 2cm.

Some seem to have complicated wiring connections -just need positive and negative.

Can someone point me to a suitable fan?

Hi. Several people have built their own or fitted kits available online. If you go to the search button at the top and search Fridge Fan you will find lots 👍

Just done mine 2 weeks ago.
2 X 4" fans off eBay and a digital temperature controller. Not been away when real hot as yet but was running ok at recent rally. I am playing around with best location for the sensor.
Cost. £10

I replaced the heatsink paste recently sat in mid 30s in france got ice in freezer and fridge cold.
One of the best mods after the fans.

My fan mods.

And then the internal fan mod.

I fitted two fans following the method suggested in the Trudigans YouTube channel. Two pwm fans with an electronic fan controller which varies the fan speed according to the temp, and a temperature sensor switch which only switches the fans on when the temp of the heat exchanger behind the fridge is over 50 degrees. Has been working brilliantly on our current European trip where temps have been as high as 38 - 40 degrees. Fridge has kept the beer cold brilliantly and made lots of ice.

I fitted the Titan 140mm twin fan kit from Amazon couple of weeks ago. Fitted & working in an hour.

Looks nice but I can get the official Thetford fan kit for £45. £65 is a bit steep. I was thinking of a tenner or so!

Fair point but I have had these fans for four years and they have stood the test of time. You really notice the difference when they are turned up.

Sat here in Spain now with twin 120mm pc case fans with an inline variable (dimmer controller) switch.
This trip has seen temps up to 42° beer has been super cool the whole trip through Portugal and around to the costa's
Total cost approx £20

Retrieved everything I needed from the council tip, 4 12v fans, domestic thermostat and fuse holder.

?? I don't understand,can anyone explain please.
Heat sink paste is the goo around the fridge, it looks like thick sealant. After some years, 6/8 it gets brittle and leaves gaps so the fridge doesn’t work efficiently and needs replacing, aDIY job.
Fridge fans help the fridge to cool better on hot days.
We have the Titan twin fan but there are other versions.

I just cable tied a computer fan to the top grill run wires down to behind the botom grill cut a wago connector in to the live supply and i dont connect unless were some where hot where i would usually remove bottom grill anyway
Under a fiver

Thanks for that

So I have fitted the Brunner Fridge fans. I have realised that although the fans can be switched off the control module is live with a green light showing at all times (because it is connected to a permanent 12v feed)

Now I know I could fit an isolation switch but just wondering if it would be a problem leaving it as it is. When the fans are running it consumes 6 watts. When fans are switched off it will be nominal power consumption I guess but the module circuitry will be live all the time.

Is this a problem?

Similar

I bought two computer fans from eBay and and fixed them to those homemade rails.
There is plenty of room to fit them behind the top grill. They are screwed up to the top of the void and are set to blow so they will pull air over the radiator from the bottom grill.
I took the supply wires trough an existing sealed hole un the rear void and picked up a 12V feed from a USB socket in the bedroom
I have pushed the temperature sensor in to fins at about middle.
It was actually too powerful so I disconnected one fan. One fan is more than in enough

Had mine on from Thursday to Monday, even driving back from scooter racing for 100 miles journey. No problem. I've got the Titan unit.

That controller looks good, do you have a link for it ?
These are a lot cheaper and some come with enclosures. 12v powered. One is controlling my fridge now 👌

I used one of those on my last van inside a small plastic box behind the fridge. Neat, cheap, and works perfectly. Once set it isn't something I expect to look at again.

Current van came with a CBE unit. No display so more fiddly to set up but again once done I don't expect to look at it much.
